You stared at yourself in the reflective surface of the mirror as two sets of hands went about arranging your hair and makeup, your face twisted in an uneasy, nervous expression. You looked absolutely gorgeous, you had to admit, and credit was due to Paintra and Adeline who assisted you. But you weren’t necessarily concerned about your appearance right now. You were worried about what was happening after the torture of having makeup brushes all over you and having your hair pulled every which-way. On a normal basis, you wouldn’t have given two flying damns about putting on makeup or doing anything elaborate with your hair, but today was special.
Today was your wedding day.
The sheer thought of getting married made your heart almost burst out of your chest. You? Married? Several years ago, that seemed improbable. Granted, you were in love, but never considered the idea of your interest returning and exchanging your same emotions. Nevertheless, here you were. He had proposed only a few years back, and you glanced down at the golden ring that still rested on your finger. The memory made you smile, but only slightly as you still considered all of the possibilities of something going wrong today. You were terrified of losing your train of thought or crying too much or perhaps tripping and falling or something equally as embarrassing. All attempts at relaxing and telling yourself that you would do just fine deemed themselves fruitless, and your worry lingered. Your thoughts transitioned onto your now fiancé, as a last resort to ease yourself. Oh you loved the man so, from the day you boarded the Halberd as his worker to the day he confessed his love for you on the New Year’s Day and beyond then.
You loved Meta Knight- you truly did.
Your other fingers twirled about the ring, and you heaved the smallest of sighs. You were slightly more relaxed, and you looked once again at yourself in the mirror. You admired the handiwork of your two creative friends and couldn’t help but smile at yourself. Their expertise was everything, today.
“Done!”
Your body shot up. They were finished already?
“Oh, darling! How beautiful!” Paintra exclaimed in pure delight. “I can only wish to be this gorgeous when I get married!” You offered a bashful smile at the compliment.
“Now now, Paintra. I wouldn’t be this magnificent without your or Adeline’s help. Thank you both so much! I certainly hope Meta Knight will appreciate your skill as much as I do!”
“Nonsense!” Adeline replied, staring to put all of her makeup back in the carrying case that she had arrived with. “You were equally as beautiful before! All we did was apply some final touch-ups and fix your hair a little. Now, shall we help you get changed?”
“O-oh! Y-yes please.” You had gotten so caught up in your appearance that you completely forgot that only half of the work was done. You still had to change, and even that required some effort and assistance. What a day… was all that ran across your mind. You stood and followed your two friends, who ushered you towards your armoire, on which hung a beautifully intricate ball gown- white and embellished with gold accents.
Now, a dress of any kind was normally out of your reach on any day. Being the manly woman you were, you never considered the feminine way of life. Besides, all you knew really was life on the Halberd, which consisted constantly of being surrounded by men. There really was no space or time to be completely womanly, here. But today? Today, you would let yourself fully embrace your gender. You had even gone as far to select the dress yourself; you thought it fit and suited you nicely, and you assured yourself that it would look no different on you today. Your only concern would be what Meta Knight would think of it. Certainly, he would respect your choice, no? Or would he be disappointed? He hadn’t seen your dress yet, and wouldn’t until later- not to mention the fact that he wasn’t aware that you were even wearing a gown to being with. This thought only heightened the tension between you and your thoughts. What if he expected you to wear your armor today? You had spent a small fortune on the dress and to have it altered to fit you and you alone, so there really was no second guessing yourself, here. You managed to shake yourself away from your worries and redirect your attention to your two friends who were busy removing the dress carefully from the hanger. After successfully freeing it, they gently set in down and faced you.
