Keval Shah
"It is a new day!
Democracy sees the Sun."
He heard the President say,
The battle had been won.
Sitting on his bed,
A crutch at his side,
He remembered all the lead
And the smell of iodide.
His squad had withered away,
All were dead but one.
But there was no dismay
The battle had been won.
Proud of his role in the fight,
He adjusted his metal arm.
The victory had cost his sight
Along with his youthly charm.
The young man had fought,
Till the job was done,
The young old man had nought
But the battle had been won.
The President left the stage;
His country's war was done.
He had no home nor wage,
His had just begun.
