"Okay, but what about that one?"
Y/n glances down at her phone, scrunching up her nose. "They don't allow pets."
"You don't have a pet."
She looks over at Spencer, a small smile on her lips. "I've always wanted one."
Spencer's lips turn up into a smile, his eyes raking over Y/n's face. He and Y/n are spending the day sitting on his couch, looking at apartments on Zillow. She had decided a couple days ago that she wanted to start looking—she "can't live here forever"—her words.
A light blush tints her cheeks. "I want a cat. I've always wanted one, since I was younger. But Owen...he wouldn't let me have one."
"Well, now you can adopt one. Just because you want to. And I know you'll be the best cat mom," he says, his voice soft.
She laughs softly, looking back down at her phone. "I like this one, though," she says, swiping up until the screen lands on one she had seen yesterday.
The apartment is nice for a single bedroom, and not too expensive. It was only a couple blocks away from Spencer's, which means it's not too far away from work. Hardwood floors, fully furnished kitchen—the works. And they allow pets.
"I like that one, too," Spencer says, grinning at her. "You should go take a tour and if you like it, then you should move in."
She looks back down at her phone before nodding. "Alright, I will." She taps a few times on her screen, no doubt reserving a time to go tour the apartment. "Will you come with me?"
"Sure, just lemme know when the tour is," Spencer says, leaning back against his couch.
"Couple days from now," she says, turning her head to smile softly at Spencer. Her smile falters slightly, her brows creasing.
"What is it?" Spencer asks, his eyes searching her face.
"I'm just still nervous Owen is gonna try to find me again," she murmurs, averting her gaze.
Spencer gently brings his fingers underneath her chin, turning her head to make her look up at him. "Do you trust me?"
She hesitates a moment, her eyes searching his. "I-I...yes."
There's something in her voice that tells Spencer she's not telling him the truth. She's scared. She's scared she's going to say something wrong and Spencer is going to turn out like Owen.
"It's okay if you don't," he whispers, letting his fingers drop from her chin. "You can tell me the truth."
"I trust you the best I can at the moment," she says truthfully.
Spencer smiles in response. "Then just please know that he's not going to try to find you. He's going to stay away from you. I promise."
Her eyes search his and she inhales deeply before nodding. "Okay." Her voice is soft, and Spencer's face softens.
