Rory
I sat outside on the porch swing, reading my new book mom got me yesterday. Her exact words were,
'Hey Sweets, Michel threw this book at me and told me to die, after I told him to clean to clean out the bathroom, and I don't think you have this book in your collection, so here you go!'I chuckled as I finished reading. It's nothing out of the ordinary. Michel gets mad at mom, mom tells Michel to do something, Michel throws something. It's a wonderful circle of hate and misery for those two. Just like mom and grandma.
I was snapped from my thoughts as a big red truck, and a moving truck parked across the street from us. I watched them carefully, because no one has lived in that house since mom and I moved in.
"Mom! We got neighbors!" I called to her through the open window next to me.
"Wait really?! Where?!" She called back. I heard her moving through the house, before the front door opened. "No way! They got the house across the street! No one lives across the street! How did they get that house?!" Mom exclaimed. I could see and feel her excitement from here.
"I don't know. Why don't we go say hi? Oh, we can give them a tour of the town." I offered, closing my book to stand next to mom. Both of us were in jeans and T-shirts, and a pull over sweater.
"But first! Coffee!!!" Mom yelled before both of us scurried inside to get to go cups.
Twenty minutes later, we walked across the street. There were two guys, one looked around my age, and the other looked older. One was blond, one had dark brown hair. We rounded the truck and stopped at the end. Both guys were talking to each other and didn't notice us.
I gave mom a look, and she rolled her eye."Hey New Guys!" She shouted.
There was a crash from inside the truck and mom and I rushed up to see what happened. A box had fallen from its place and both guys were looking at us.
"Did you shout at us?" On blond asked, and I froze. No way.
"Umm...do you...? What's your name?" I asked the blond.
He gave me a funny look before shrugging. "Lucas Scott."
I sighed with relief. "Sorry, you just look so much like someone that use to annoy the crap out of me." I shook my head. "Sorry, I'm Rory and this is my mom, Lorelei."
"Well, this is my Uncle Keith. We just moved here." Lucas said, walking closer to shake my hand, his uncle following his lead.
"Well, we're right across the street. Just a warning, no one has lived here since mom and I moved in across the street."
"Why's that?"
"Mom and I have....tendencies to go over the top. Over the top decorations, parties, junk food, food, coffee-"
"Rory, coffee is the life force of our very existence, you can never go over the top with coffee." Mom cut in with a playful disapproval look.
"Right! Totally forgot about that." I rolled my eyes. "Anyways, we also came over to offer our services on giving you the town tour."
Lucas and Keith have each other a look, before they nodded. "Sure." They said before following us out of the truck. And so the tour began.
We walked around town, showing them everything we could. We made our last stop Luke's so we could get coffee and hopefully see Taylor and Luke go at it. And luck was on our side.
"No Taylor! You can not put decorations for the Firefly Festival up in my diner!" Luke yelled.
I smiled and shooed the newbies into a corner. Mom taking a seat next to me. Both of us shared an evil smile before shouting at Luke. "Coffee!!"
"Now Luke, this is important to town morale. I don't see why you can't hang a few decorations in here?!"
"Because I don't do decorations, I don't do flyers, now get out of here Taylor!"
Mom groaned and stood up, walking around the counter and grabbed coffee. Luke and Taylor continued to hashed it out, as mom walked over with coffee. I watched Lucas and Keith's reaction, and they were shocked at the fight that happening here.
"Luke! Burgers!" I shouted.
"And fries!" Mom joined in.
"Union rings!"
"Milkshakes!"
"Bacon!"
"Hash Browns!""What are you two doing?" Keith asked, looking at both of us.
"Giving him our order." Mom stated simply, I nodded.
"Why not just wait?" Lucas asked.
"Because this happens all the time, and you have to give Luke something to do so he can ignore Taylor. Mom and I are very good at giving him a distraction. We eat a lot and need a constant supply of coffee." I told them.
"Luke! We want food!" Mom shouted. Then her phone went off.
Silence fell on the diner, and look glared at mom and pointed to the 'No CellPhones' rule. Mom didn't reach to get it. She just smiled sweetly and let it ring. I watched the interaction with my own wicked smile. I could tell Luca and Keith were shocked by this latest development, but stayed quiet."Luke, can we get some food please?" I interrupted their starring contest.
"Sure, Rory." He said and walked over. People returned talking, and Luke took our orders.
"Welcome to Stars Hallow." Was all I said to the newbies.
