Chapter 2
My legs started to ache, I couldn't bring my self to continue running. Trying to find Caden's killer was a lot harder than I had previously thought. What was I thinking? I should have just gone home. Caden wouldn't want this, all he ever did was protect me, constantly keeping me safe. I leaned against one of the many tall trees in this large and peculiar forest. For a brief second I felt like giving up. Ending everything. Life without Caden is completely pointless.
Without realising, a few hours had already gone. The sun was beginning to set and the atmosphere was becoming extremely cold. My ankle is hurting like crazy, and once I remove my tightly fitted shoes I can see that its swollen too. Great. I close my eyes and let out a long depressed sigh wondering what I ever did to deserve anything like this. I burrow down into the rusty dry leaves feeling defeated, resting my head on the trunk of a gigantic tree.
I shivered as the gusty wind danced past me. I wrapped my arms around my body although it wasn't nearly as comforting in comparison to Cadens long muscular arms wrapped around me. The image of his piercing brown eyes in a fixed position stays with me like an engraved image imprinted at the centre of my brain. The scene of his death continues to replay in my mind. I can feel my heart sinking and my eyes swelling with tears staining my cheeks.
Suddenly I hear the sound of leaves moving which sends a cold shiver down my spine. I slowly stand up. I can't see clearly at first due to my blurred vision but then I see the silhouette of a boy. He comes closer. It is now apparent that he is around my age-no more than seventeen.
"Get away from me" I hiss, feeling a little intimidated by his presence. "Nice to meet you, I'm Renzo" his loud husky voice took me by surprise.
"I said get away from me" I repeated coldly.
"Aren't you going to introduce yourself?" He questioned.
"Leave me alone."
"That's not very polite Imogen." he said with a crooked smile revealing dazzling white teeth.
