It was July third, twelve fifteen p.m., Emma and Peter were eating peanut butter and banana sandwiches with milk, Tony was down in his workshop and Steve was sitting on the couch reading the newspaper.
"Papa?" Emma asks, taking another bite of her sandwich while managing to get it all over herself.
"Yes honey?" Steve replies without removing the paper from his face.
"Wha' do you wan' for your birffday tomorrow?" Steve set his paper down on his lap and said,
"Your dad and the both of you are more than I could ever ask for." Steve smiles at the both of them and gets up to kiss his children but they run away giggling.
"Next time don't talk with your mouth full, you might choke." Steve said as they just kept running.
They soon met up in one of the hall closets, conspiring with one another about what to get their Pops for his birthday. Just then, Peter had a bright idea.
"Why don't we ask Dad if he could help us find a present for Papa?" Emma nodded her head vigorously before they left the closet, heading downstairs into their father's workshop.
Once there, Emma started banging on the door, as if doing that would magically open the door the way it always did when someone punched in the door code.
Luckily, Peter had seen his Dad open that door before and remembered the code as well, so things should go pretty smoothly. After the code was entered, the door opened quickly, Emma was about to run inside when Peter stopped her and said,
"Hold my hand, Daddy doesn't like it when you touch his stuff."
"But I don't wanna!" Emma whined, giving a big pout and crossing her arms.
"Then you can stay out here while I talk to Daddy."
"No! I wanna go too."
"Then gimme your hand." Peter was getting impatient with his sister because sometimes she did things that annoyed the crap out of him.
Reluctantly, Emma reached for his open hand and laid her hand in his and they started walking.
Jarvis soon alerted Tony of their presence, Tony sighed wondering how in the hell two small children seemed to just wander on into his workshop, especially while having to deal with an access code.
"Ok, come out guys, the jig is up I know you're in here." Tony put down his tools and waited for the little pitter patter of feet and two small faces to meet him.
"You know you two aren't supposed to be in here. How did you get in here exactly? Tell me I have better security than this." Tony sighed, wiping his hands on a dirty rag.
"Didn't I also tell you not to bother me when I'm in my workshop?"
"I know Daddy, but me and Emma were trying to figure out what we're trying to figure out what to get Papa for his birthday tomorrow." Peter said, still keeping a hold on his little sisters hand.
"Did you ask him what he wanted?"
"Yeeaahh, but he said that you, me and Emma were his presents." Tony smiled, classic Steve never wanting anything materialistic, just family.
"Just make him a card and I will handle the rest." Tony smiled at his two children while the gears in his head started to turn and he immediately knew what to get Steve for his birthday the next day.
Peter and Emma quickly ran away to Peter's room to try and make their Pops the best birthday card anyone had ever seen. Peter took out two pieces of paper, one for him and one for his sister and told her to make the best birthday card she could. Of course when she was done with it, it looked like a bunch of scribbles and squiggly lines all over the paper, but Steve would love it nonetheless.
The next morning, Steve woke up to two giggling children jumping on top of him and breakfast in bed. He smiled and kissed his children on top of their heads and when presented with their cards, Steve said that they were the most wonderful things that he'd ever seen. After a while Tony told them to go play and give them their private time.
"This is just the beginning of the most wonderful day that I have planned for you." Tony kissed Steve on his lips and told him to eat while he got dressed. Tony quickly left the room after he got dressed and decided that the kids would be staying with Clint and Natasha for the day.
After Steve finished his breakfast, he took a shower and was escorted down to the car by Tony himself. He was going to take Steve to all of his favorite places, starting with a bakery shop in Brooklyn, then he took him to see a very cheesy movie and finally, it ended with them having sex on Tony's private beach. At the end of the day, when everyone was back home and the kids were in bed, Tony took Steve out onto the balcony where he had nothing but a blanket and some pillows waiting for them.
On Tony's cue, fireworks set off from every direction and Steve could not believe that he had the best husband anybody could ever wish for. Steve thanked Tony for the best birthday ever and that he was the luckiest man alive. Tony showered Steve with many kisses before they dove in for round two of birthday sex.
