"Everybody said you were being quiet and weird." Annie tells him. She observes his slumped figure, leaning against the windowsill where there's a bay window. How his back is turned to her. How he looks defeated. She walks towards him almost tentatively, waiting to be invited. She's not used to not being invited. At least not when it comes to Finnick. Eventually, she's standing in front of him. Finnick sits on the cushioned bench located under the bay window, his legs crossed in a crooked four with his frame tilting towards the windowsill where his elbow rests and fist holds his chin. His eyes flit up to hers. She plops down on the seat in front of him, making herself comfortable. "So are you gonna talk to me and tell me what's wrong?" Her sweet, little southern voice asks him in a playfully demanding way. Amusement dances in the green of his eyes, the corners of his mouth subtly pulling upwards. "Or are we just gonna sit here and stare at each other all day?" He raises his eyebrows challengingly. As if asking,Well what are you going to do about it honey? "I'll tell you something,Mister O'Daire." She warns, poking her finger into his chest. He smirks, egging her to go on. "I know your weaknesses and I'm not afraid to use them against you." She teasingly threatens. "Do you?" He asks skeptically, yet still intrigued. "I do." She says, and then nods matter-of-fact like. "Secrets." She whispers, lingering on the s. She clutches his shoulders when uttering the word, then letting go after the word leaves her lips. Finnick leans closer to Annie in excitement. "What do you have for me,mermaid girl?" He asks in a low, deep voice. For the slightest moment,Annie blushes and looks down. Finnick can't help but find delight in this. "Well, nothing I'll share without you telling me what's been going on with you." He rolls his eyes at her answer. "Fine." Annie's eyes crinkle with the knowledge of triumph. "Oh,would you wipe that little grin off your face?" He asks, sending her into a fit of giggles. Subconsciously,Finnick smiles to himself as he watches her throw her head back in laughter. When Annie composes herself, she promises,"Okay."
"Alright. You ready?" He asks her, just finally starting to have a solemness come over him. "Yes." Annie promises. "Okay. There's...been a rumor going around." Finnick pauses. "Sayin?" Annie presses on. "Well,it's probably silly now that I think about it. And don't you worry your pretty little head over it. It's just that...well,apparently everybody thinks that the names are going to be rigged this year at the reaping. It's a special bonus for the Capitol!" He says the last line in a Capitol accent. Finnick continues, "So basically, people of the Capitol have the once in a lifetime opportunity to pick whom they find to be the best candidates for filling the role of a tribute of their utmost desires. The sexiest, hottest people of the districts at their choosing."
Annie looks at the handsome man before her, absolutely dumbfounded.
She blinks twice, her mouth agape and head tilted in a stupor.
"Don't you get it?!" Finnick asks,in overly dramatic exasperation. "They're picking me!!!" He shouts whilst shaking the girl's shoulders back and forth.
She pushes the young man's hands off of her in disgust. "Oh,Finnick. Are you kidding me?" Her eyes are squinting with disbelief mingled with annoyance.
"Annie,my dear Annie." Finnick says, taking her hands in his own. "Would I really kid about something like this?" He asks her as if asking a child. "Oh,Finnick." Annie says, using her thumbs to rub circles on his hands. "If you weren't so damn arrogant sometimes,I might..." She sighs, looking down. "Might what?" Finnick asks, his interest peaked. Annie attempts to blow a strand of hair out of her face, still looking down. Her leg starts swaying side to side nervously. "Might what?" He presses once more, giving her hands a quick squeeze. She pulls her hands away and tries to tuck a strand of hair behind her ear. But as her hand comes up to her ear,Finnick catches it. This captures her attention. She watches in captivation as he takes her hand over to his lips, and then kisses it in a way that leaves much to linger. To long for. As if something is unfinished. So Annie draws the moment out. With her dainty, feminine fingers, she runs trails into his scalp. As she does so,her torso hovers closely over Finnick's. Finnick feels sensational ripples in his belly, and leans back on his elbows to let her come closer. When she does, she kisses him so softly that he only knows of it because of the warmth that rises up inside of him afterward. His eyes are still closed, ready for more when she makes her way to the door. He hears the doorknob twisting and his eyes flicker open. "Annie?" She turns around, her pretty auburn ringlets bouncing onto her back at the swivel. Her green eyes look on at him expectantly. "You never told me your secret." Finnick tells her. She smiles mysteriously. "I can only give away so many at once." And then she's gone, leaving Finnick to wonder about what she said and what it could possibly mean.xx author's note xx
