A/N: This is my first fanfic and I'm not a very good writer so don't hate on my poor soul👌. I'm writing this during lots of school tests so the chapters' post times are going to be inconsistent. This switches between Nami's POV and 3rd person btw.
. . .
NAMI POV
I was now sailing back to the hometown I always had in the back of my mind; Cocoyashi village. I knew I would have to return home like I always did. Not that I never had a real choice, but for some reason leaving that group of misfits I had gotten to know left a bad taste in my mouth. I thought, staring into the deep ocean.
...
While on the ship, Nami recollected bits of memories of her life in the village. Memories of a happy time, with her cherished mother Bellemere and her older sister Nojiko.
She remembered a nice time where she and her small family were out in the orchard picking ripe oranges. She was proud to be helping her mother. It was always a competition with her older sister to see who could pick the best oranges.
"Hah..." Nami's reminiscence ends as she is quickly reminded of the day Along came into her small world. It's so vivid in her mind as Arlong shoots right through the mother she had always loved.
The fear she felt that that moment, she could never dream to ever forget.
NAMI POV
"Soon... So very soon I'll finally be free. I can finally smile from the bottom of my heart." At this, I start to choke up and begin to cry, as tears stream down my face. I leave the deck of the ship and head down into the women's quarters, wiping my wet face. I lay in bed and fall into a deep slumber.
I dream. Well, you can't really call it dreaming. It's all too familiar. Since all I've had been thinking about lately was Arlong, of course, I had to do the same while sleeping.
I am a child. Everything seems so familiar, wait.. what- I'm back in the village. "Oh right.. I'm asleep. Ugh, lucid dreams are the worst". I say aloud. My annoyance with myself being clear.
I look around the place that I am in. Much to my horror... I'm in my room. The map room to be exact. The room was forced upon me by disgusting pirates. Looking around, it appears to look new. Old to me now of course. I've been here for years and it hasn't looked this empty for a long time.
I look down to see the Arlong tattoo on my upper arm. "I must have gotten here recently.... That means-". I'm cut off by a slam to the door. " A gasp escapes my lips. I begin shaking violently. I know exactly what is about to take place.
Arlong enters the room. His horrid face is exactly as I remember. His harsh features, the prominent chin, the deadly sharp teeth, the glaring eyes, and of course the nose. If looks could kill, I'd be long dead.
"What do you think you are doing, Surveyor"?! His loud voice fills the room and fills me with fear. 'Say something dammit'. My small body doesn't move. I just sit on the floor staring at the beast before me.
He acts fast and swiftly, despite his towering figure. He grabs my slender frame, slamming me into the stone wall behind us.
"You are my surveyor. You belong to me. You will draw charts and maps as I please." I don't dare utter a word, It's crazy that he expects me to. I am unresponsive, and this fills him with anger. He lifts me high above the ground, squeezing his large hands around my throat tightly before throwing me at a nearby desk.
Arlong glares at me. The small girl he is towering over. "You will not leave this room. You will not receive food or water. The only thing you will get is these books. Draw me 50 sea charts and knock on this door when you are finished."
I breathe a sigh of relief after he exits the room. I hadn't realized I was holding my breath.
Without any options, I begin the task of drawing sea charts.
...
Nami wakes up with a jolt. Unable to continue her slumber, and not wanting to, she goes onto the deck. "Is that- I don't know if I should be excited for finally being back or disgusted."
Nami can just barely see her home in the distance. She is so close to the place that caused her so much pain and joy. She is left with a jumble of emotions that makes her nauseous.
"I'm home."
