I woke up earlier than my alarm, so I had time for a quick treadmill run at the gym. Though my penthouse is big, hindi na ako naglagay ng sarili kong gym. This condominium has its own gym. Bakit pa ako magsasayang ng pera for my own if it's part of what I paid when I purchased my unit here. It's 5:00 AM already, the sun is about to rise, and the streets are slowly getting busy. I just showered and proceeded to my kitchen.
I prepared my breakfast today, unlike my usual mornings that I just passed by in my favorite café and grab my favorite coffee. I made my own banana smoothie, had some toasted bread with sliced tomato, egg, and ham on the side, and of course my coffee. I am eating it on my balcony.
"Hmmmmmm... such a good way to start my busy day." This is where I find simple joy, in preparing my own breakfast, and watching the sunrise as people start their day.
It's amazing how streets slowly become busy from a very peaceful and empty one. From the top, I can see different people and cars. Everyone is in a hurry. They are all busy for survival. I wonder how many of them are actually living.
AT 7:30 AM, I am already inside my car and on the way to my office. Isang oras lang naman ang byahe mula sa condo ko.
"Magandang araw, Attorney Z!" The security guards greeted me.
"Magandang araw, Kuya Alvin and Ken!" I smiled at them as I entered the building.
"Good morning, Attorney Z." Magalang na bati ng receptionist.
"Good morning, Rica."
I always made sure that I give my employees the same amount of respect I give to my clients. They both keep my firm going. My office is on the top floor. I have my own law firm now. After a year of public practice, I decided to build my own law firm. I have gained enough trust and made connections, wide enough to put my firm on the top.
"Good morning, Beatrice. Schedule, please."
"Good morning, Attorney. For today, you are vacant the whole morning. But, at 12:00 PM, you have a lunch meeting with a client, Ms. Chua of Hope Enterprises. You have a court trial at 2:00 PM. And lastly, a dinner reservation at Serene's with your best friends."
"By vacant, you mean, I have to review some cases, right?"
"Ah, unfortunately, yes Attorney." Napangiwi siya while smiling a little.
"Alright, thank you, Beatrice. You can go now."
Bahagya akong natawa. I have such a busy day ahead.
I put on my glasses and started reviewing cases. This is the thing about being a lawyer, we never stop reading. When I was in law school, we were advised to read, read, read, and read. There is no other way to go but to read. Kung akala mo na pagkatapos ng bar exam, you are free from reading, well then, you are wrong, because you must read cases and review laws every damn day so you will know how to defend your clients in court.
