The sun was out again

The sun was out again. It never seemed to go away to make room for other forecasts. Mark was sipping on a lemonade on his way to the field one fine Monday morning. It cooled him down and took the edge off a dull headache he was experiencing. His free hand swung by his side and his mind occupied itself solely on Donghyuck.

He smiled around the straw and pulled it away from his mouth to eye the amount left. It was mostly mushed and melted ice, but he wasn't really thinking about that, or the trail he was following towards the field. His heart warmed at the thoughts of their last meeting, when they sat opposite each other in wonder, in the pitch-black of night, and observed the little glowing insect in the jar between them. It had been magical. The stars had shone down on them and illuminated a night full of wonder and magic.

The trees whispered around him and the birds gossiped. The clovers and herbs scented the woods with aromas of welcoming greetings, and he simply followed them to the place where the dirt banks lowered their gradient and the trees grew sparse. The blanket of shedded pine needles lay flat for his shoes to imprint on.

"Mark!"

He looked up from his soil-stained runners to meet eyes with Donghyuck, who was waving excitedly from across the field which had come into view. "Hey!" He lifted his hand and returned the wave. He entered the field and felt his muscles relax instinctively while he moved towards the smiling boy.

"It's good to see you," Donghyuck mentioned bashful, realising that his enthusiasm was a bit overboard. "Good morning."

"Good morning to you too," he grinned dumbly, happy to be in the boy's presence.

They remained standing while Donghyuck circled him animatedly. Mark's eyes followed the sandy-blonde boy as he wandered around with his hands clasped behind his back, but the younger was also eyeing Mark curiously. "You seem chipper today."

Mark continued to turn as Donghyuck walked around and smiled lopsidedly, heart fluttering every time his naturally floral scent brushed his senses gracefully. "I'm just glad to be back. I've started to dread weekends these days," he chuckled lightly and let it die down to a content smile. His fingers tucked around his sleeve to occupy his buzzing mind. "It doesn't feel like I'm home until I come back here."

Donghyuck stopped circling him and froze in the position of taking a step, the corner of his lip raising in a flattered manner. He moved to kick at the ground shyly, eyes downcast to hide his blush. "I'm glad you're back too."

They quietly sat down amongst the flowers on the flattened area and Mark pulled his legs in to sit cross-legged, hands resting on his knees. He scratched his head shyly at the confession that Donghyuck also felt the same way. It made his day. "So, umm...How are you today?"

Donghyuck didn't meet Mark's eyes but rather, smiled at the piece of dried grass he was tugging at with great warmth inside at how mundane their conversation had started. It suited them. "I'm quite alright. I missed you..." he wiped his forehead with his sleeve distractedly and failed to hear the hard pounding of Mark's heart in his chest. "Was work good?"
