Hospital Trip

I sit off to the side trying to find things to do on my phone. Time seems to be moving at half speed. Each time I look at my phone a minute barely passes. The drone of coaches telling the students different stunts nearly lull me to sleep. But the sharp chirp of the whistle brings me back each time. The sound of heavy breathing, giggling, talking, and the thump of hard landings went in a cycle. I never noticed how frigid the gymnasium is, my arms are covered in goosebumps.

Although it took forever to happen, it's finally 7:10. Nick said that he would be here at 7:10. I have no clue how he will get me out of here considering that one time I was feeling sick, terribly ill; and my coach told me to lie down and drink water. If I couldn't leave early when I was about to vomit my brains out I'm really unsure how he's gonna get me out.

The gymnasium's door open then slam shut. I quickly look to see who it is. Loe and behold it's Nicolas Aronthal. He looks around the gym. He locks eyes with me and waves. He breaks out into a jog and meets me at my seat.

"So, are you ready to go?" He asks.

I look at him in amazement. When Nick wants something, he will get it done.

"How? How did you manage to get me out of here?"

"I told them that you needed to go to the doctor for a check up on your leg."

"And they are believing that my friend is taking me to that?"

Nick scoffs. "No, they believe that your boyfriend is."

I nearly choke. They believed that Nick was Travis, really? Nick? "You told them that you were Travis?"

"No, I said that I was your boyfriend, I never said his name. They wouldn't let me in if I said that you were my friend."

I stand up and toss my bag over my shoulder. I can't believe this is working.

"So, this is Travis huh?" Coach Parr asks sneaking in.

Nick smiles and puts his arm around my shoulders. Just as I thought we could get out of here under the radar, along comes my coach.

"Yup. This is him," I say trying to sound as believable as possible.

"She has told us a lot about you. It's very sweet of you to take her in for her appointment."

"It's my duty to do this," he and Coach Parr share a laugh. I force a small fake one.

"But seriously I would do anything for her. She means the world to me." He kisses my cheek for a lingering second. I feel myself blushing. He's very convincing, he sounds just like Travis.

"Very cute. Well, you two get going. I'll see you next practice." We exchange parting waves.

"You are good my friend," I praise as we exit out the gym. Nick smiles and takes out his car keys.

"Imitating Travis isn't that hard. You just have to be sappy, mixed in with a cheesy dad like line." He unlocks his car and opens the door for me. He flies into the driver's seat and immediately takes off.

It's going to take us 30 minutes to get to the hospital and about 40 minutes to get back to my house. We have until nine to see this girl. I feel nervous but a little excited. I'm sure by now that she's gotten better. Well, I hope that she has.

"Do you know her state? Is she better?" I ask opening a bag of chips.

"God no!" Nick chuckles. "Jez, it was a miracle she even made it to now. She is just about dead. But I heard that she's talking and that's all we need."
