The wind hit her face, swung her hair, and pushed her tears off her face. Her nose was frostbitten, as were her fingers. Being near the water always made her scared, but it was worth it this time. She felt her jacket lift.
It wasn't off of habit.
"Look at her, what's she..." The words of mere strangers bounced off her ears. Her shoulder was bent, and her hand was curved around a large pole. She felt no warm presence around her, but there was the ubiquity of hate. A small hawk yelled, calling its murder maybe. She hadn't had one too many this time. She hadn't had any alcohol lately.
It wasn't her fault.
She stared at the faded stars in the navy blue sky, which blended into pitch black, yet it glowed light blue by the moon. The night time made her smile. She whispered one word, only audible to her.
"Beautiful."
Her mother used to tell her stories about a man on the moon, that he was engraved by God, who told him to watch over Earth and its people as it spun around. Now she stared at him, knowing her mother's sweet words weren't going to waste. She knew the man on the moon would not be disappointed.
Another tear blew away.
Small transparent clouds drifted over the sky. She remembered how her life used to be like the clouds. She felt weightless and yet, still full of life. But as she got older, her cloud filled with rain, and her weightless, happy life floated down until her feet met the ground. She smiled at this.
Fun always ends at one point.
She took a deep breath of the autumn wind. It smelled fresh and made her heart deepen with sympathy. The words of an old friend entered her mind. "The autumn wind, though it's forsaken, it brings out the best in the moon and her stars." They used to play music on their iPod, and listen to it together, one earbud for each of them. Though, she knew how much her friend loved the pink earbuds, so she gave them to her.
We fell in love in October.
It was a favorite between them. It was an American love song, and it always touched her heart. She never thought about how much she enjoyed music, and she wished she had pursued it instead of becoming a police officer. Yet, since her dad died from a break-in, she felt it was her duty to help others.
Was*
She extended her arm, reaching for the moon. But it was much too far. She smiled. Smiled because of the half-crescents luck, the luck she yearned for. Smiled because of the stories and music. Smiled because it was her last step. Step to check off.
Step to take to be fulfilled, happy, loved. Not lost in a loom. It was perfect, pure. Amazing. She enjoyed the last step where the wind met her face, screaming because it was so powerful. It pulled her jacket up. Yet, quiet took over and pounded her thankful ears. Her apologetic ears. I'm sorry lover.
SIlence.
