Chapter 1
"Marry me." He said. His name is Drew, he's the love of my life. We have known each other since we were five and we have been together since we were fifteen years old which was like ten years ago. Yes he was my first and only true love. He was the only guy I trusted and right now after this we will truly and legally belong to each other. "Yes." I said excited and overwhelmed at the same time. He brought me to the park because that's where we met when we were five.
Since that day we had been inseparable and his parents ended up moving in next to me and my parents. We hugged and he kissed me. Then suddenly we both heard a shot. I looked at him and saw a blank scared look on his face. I looked at his shirt and there it was, blood. He fell to the ground and that's when everything started to fade away and my bedroom started to appear and become more clear. I looked at the clock and it read 3:00 a.m. " Oh my gosh I have to get up in three hours!" I rolled back over back over and closed my eyes and tried to go back to sleep but I couldn't because I kept thinking of drew.
Drew died last year and I'm still trying to get over it. I just don't know how our two year old daughter Layla is going to grow up without her father in her life. My dad died when I was eight and I have always struggle with the fact that he is gone and I don't want Layla to struggle like I did. Crying in the middle of the night like I did. I just want Layla to have a happy life. Layla is smart for her age and she is talking a little, she can say "Mommy" and "Daddy." I know there will be a lot of problems because Drew is not in her life and I just feel like I need to be there for her all the time and make sure she doesn't run with the wrong crowd once she gets older.
Gosh I need to go to sleep this is too much to be thinking about at three O'clock in the morning. I closed my eyes again and just laid there till I eventually fell asleep. Three hours later my alarm went off and I immediately jumped up. I can't believe it's six O'clock in the morning already. Ok first thing I need to do is get Layla dressed and ready to go. I walked into Layla's room and shook her lightly and she immediately popped up happy and excited. " Mommy!" I smiled at her. " Time to go see granny." She jumped up and down on her bed. She's so goofy.
I picked her up and walked to her closet." What color would you like to wear today?" She pointed to a cute but simple outfit. She picked out a cute pink shirt that had a panda bear on it with a black tutu and pink tights. I grabbed her outfit and her pink and black sandals to go with it. I undressed her, changed her pull-up and put her clothes on her. I fixed her hair into two cute pony tails and handed her the black sun glasses I bought her. "Come on." I said to her. She put on her sunglasses and she followed me to my room where I got dressed in jeans and a red hoodie that said "Swag" in gold letters. Finally I slide on my red and black jordans and started to my car with my books and Layla in my arm.
I had class today so I had to drop Layla off at my mom's house. My mom is like my best friend, I tell her everything just like she tells me everything. Her name is Kelly Johnson, she is basically my mom and my dad every since my dad passed away she has been there for me through everything. I want me and Layla to be as tight as me and my mom are when she gets older. I pulled up into my moms driveway. Me and Layla walked up to the front door with me still caring her of course even though she can walk but she is spoiled. I let her ring the doorbell and we waited twenty seconds before she answers.
" Granny!" She moved to the side so we could both come in. " How are my babies?" she said. she is always excited to see us. " we're good mama." I smiled and hugged her. "Granny!" My mom reach over and grabs Layla out my arms. " Thank you for watching her by the way." She looked at me and smiled. " How are you doing by the way, you know?" I know she meant Drew. " Um, I'm doing Ok. I'm working on getting me and my life back together." Looking her in her eyes I gave her a reassuring smile. " But I'm fine mama. How are you?"I asked. " Oh I'm fine baby, I just been working on my book and making sure my flower shop stays up. My mom loves to write and she works hard in her flower shop and always makes sure everything is ok and payed. My mom is just one of those nice, sweet, caring, and genuine kind of people. She never gets mad of or sad...well except for when my dad passed of course but she got right back up within a month and most people like myself take at least a year.
"Thank you again for watching Layla but I have to go before I'm late to class." I hugged my mother tight and kissed Layla's cheek then started out the door to my car driving off. I ended up getting to class two minutes early. I sat alway at the top and got my note book ready for notes while I waiting.Everyone was mostly already in the room so I doubt any of the rest will show up. Class began and the professor started his lecture on court and what to expect when you are working. I majored in criminal justice because I want to be lawyer and help get drug dealers and murderers off the streets.
As the professor was lecturing the door open and in walked this tall light skin guy. He had light brown curly hair and hazel eyes and long eyelashes that made his eye look really beautiful. He wore khaki shorts with a light blue polo shirt and blue vans (The shoes). "And you are?" Said professor interrupting my thought. " Anthony." He replied." I just switched schools" His voice was deep and he didn't seem nervous at all.
" Well hurry up and sit down. Today we are going over what to expect in court so take out your notebook because you are going to want to know this, It's very interesting." From where I was I could see Anthony mutter something to himself. " What was that?" Professor asked. Anthony looked at him, smiled and replied " Great I'm excited to learn." Anthony walked past some girls who were staring at him and smiling flirtatiously and sat down two rows below me. I have to admit it, he was cute. I have way more important things to worry about than cute guys who show up to class late.
After class everyone left except for me and Anthony. I finished up some notes and started to the door till I fell over a book. Anthony ran over to me and helped me up. " Are you OK?" He asked as he helped me pick up my books. Now that I see him up close he is really cute. His teeth are so white and his eyelashes are so long it makes his eyes look really beautiful especially because his eyes are hazel. He's kinda tall, not too skinny and he has some muscle on him.
" Um yeah thank you." I replied. " I'm Anthony by the way." He said. " Aaliyah." I replied back. " Well Aaliyah if you would like I can carry your books and stuff for you." What?? If this is his way to try and talk to me and get my number he can forget about because I'm not letting anyone else back into my life not after Drew. " No I'm fine I'm just heading to work. I don't even stay on campus." He looked at me for a moment before he replied. "OK, I guess I'll see you tomorrow then." He walked out the classroom door and I head to my car to go home and then to work.
