January 23 – [133 days after the incident] RAO ZIJIE -

She asked me about her mum...Never in my life I have come across someone asking me a question so desperately...she asked me repeatedly about her mother. I couldn't move. For a moment, the scene of my mom and dad taking their last breath came in my mind. I shred a tear.

January 23 – [133 days after the incident] XIAO XING -

What was that tear supposed to mean??

Without wasting any second I rushed to the room where my mom was getting treatment because she and I were supposed to be in the same hospital. It was empty. The room. The bed. They were empty. No one. No one was there. I didn't believe it. I ran like crazy finding her everywhere when Zijie stopped me and hugged me. I understood what had happened. Later I read Shen Kai's letter:

Dear Xingxing,

I know I am not a true friend...I put my selfishness above you..I can't ever repay you...due to my selfishness, you couldn't even see your mom for the last time. All this time, Zijie was taking care of you and your mom. He used to come to visit you and your mom at least 2 or 3 times a day. He treated your mom like his own mom. I don't deserve to be with you. I finally realize what's so good about Zijie. He is a good man. I have nothing more to say. I won't ask for your forgiveness because I know I don't deserve to be forgiven. ZAIJIAN!

I and Zijie cried together for a few hours. Right now, I only have Zijie with me. Never thought a single incident could change my life forever. Right now, I want to stop looking at the past and cherish the person with whom I am.
