I lay a punch to the right side of his jaw praying that it disorients him enough so that I can win this match.

Unfortunately , not all prayers can be answered.

The giant is unphased and returns a punch to my jaw and kicks my chest, knocking the wind out of me and I fall to the floor knowing what is to come. Before I have time to catch my breath, I'm dragged by my hair out of the ring and thrown into a wall. "Weak, pathetic little girl", Atlas says while sending a kick to my ribs and I hear a crack.

"Do you realize how lucky you are to be a fighter for me?, You are nothing without me", he eggs on while landing another kick to my already broken ribs.

"I expect winners and only winners to fight for me", Atlas says before he starts caressing my cheek,"You leave me no choice but to beat the loss out of you. You understand that I'm doing this for you my little bird?"

It comes out as more of a demand rather than a question but I know better than to disagree so I simply nod my head yes and with that confirmation Atlas smiles, the same smile that continuously haunt my nights.

He then orders his henchmen to beat me until I black out but I welcome the darkness, it's my only way to escape the pain....

I wake up to the smell of something burning and bolt out of my bedroom, ready to kill whoever woke me up this early in the morning.

I walk out of my bedroom looking around and see my little brother attempting to cook breakfast with a look of panic on his face.

Imbecile.

Noticing my presence, Elijah gives me an innocent smile before trying to explain why the kitchen looks like the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina. "I was trying to do something special for our first day of school but halfway through the process I saw that I put the settings on the stove too high and I tried to save the eggs but-"

"You realize we live above a diner right?", I cut him off knowing that when he is overwhelmed he will ramble on forever.

"I know I just thought since you do so much for me, I could do something for you" and with that my heart melts and I tell him to get ready so that we can go downstairs and have an edible breakfast  before we go to school. Just the thought of school makes me want to naruto run out the window.

But today is a big deal for Eli and who am I to ruin it?

I was very hesitant about coming back to school but Elijah needed some normalcy in his life and A 17 year old girl and her 15 year old brother going back to their old school is as close as we can get to normal for now.  When we ran from California I never expected to come back to Connecticut nonetheless our hometown but sometimes the best places to hide are in plain sight.
