OPHELIA ALWAYS HAD a feeling something was up with Spencer, but the thought never struck her that he would get himself a girlfriend so soon. And she also never thought in a million years that this said girlfriend who he doesn't even know what she looks like gets kidnapped by her supposed stalker. Now, she isn't saying that Spencer would make any of this up, it's just a little farfetched to her: A BAU agent falls for his secret lover but his secret lover gets kidnapped.
She had missed that distinct spark in Spencer's eye, how often he had smiled, been more distracted, and jumped every time a phone rang nearby. All signs pointed to the fact that something was up.
But how was it so obvious that Ophelia failed to notice the tiny little details that had changed in Reid's behavior? Ophelia was no profiler, but any average human could notice the shift in his personality. She couldn't notice the far off look in his face when she was telling him stories to pass some time in car rides to visit crime scenes, how fast he'd pack up when it was time to head home instead of staying in the Bureau after hours to finish up some cold cases, and him checking his watch more and more.
The most obvious one of all was how Spencer wasn't constantly coming up with new things to say. The way his information got less and less as time went on.
And the women felt so stupid how she was the only one on the whole team who didn't know he was in a relationship. Why didn't Spencer tell her first? After all, they are the closest out of the whole team besides Derek and Penelope's flirtatious relationship.
"Based on Maeve's description of the unsub in her letters, he seems like a classically possessive stalker." Morgan stated as he sifted through the huge stack of letters Maeve had sent to Spencer over the last few months.
Everyone was sitting at the round table, including Penelope Garcia, discussing everything they know about Maeve and her stalker. Files, cases that included stalking, whatever knowledge the boy could think of, everything was just a mess. "One who craves validation and recognition. 'What won't you see me?' 'Do you think you're better than me?' This comes up again and again." JJ spoke up with furrowed brows, reading through some of Maeve's many letters.
"So does his suicidal ideation: 'When I find you, I'm going to kill you, then myself.'"Chimed in Alex Blake, whom Spencer revealed his girlfriend to first. Then David Rossi spoke up. "Murder-suicide is the ultimate 'I love you' to these guys."
The whole time the team was throwing out ideas and getting nowhere, Spencer and Ophelia sat next to each other in silence with their heads down. Not once has either of them spoken since they sat down at the table. "When did the unsub start targeting Maeve?" Hotch asked Spencer, who was still taking in all of this information.
