"Settle down, students!"
Teacher Nam waited for the freshman class of the Vocal and Dance Department to quiet down. "We have a new transfer student. She's a foreign exchange student and is not proficient in Korean so I expect all of you to be as accommodating as needed." She fixed the class with a glare from behind her designer glasses.
"Another transfer?"
"I wish it were a boy."
"What are you? A disappointed parent discovering the gender of their baby?"
"A foreigner... Like, from China?"
"I hope she's from America!"
Teacher Nam raised her voice to be heard above the class and called our in English. "Miss Mae, come in!"
The door slid open and she stepped inside. The new student's appearance caused quite a stir.
"Oh God, she's gorgeous!"
"She doesn't look Asian."
"So tall…"
"Why isn't she wearing a uniform?"
The girl was taller than Teacher Nam, the fact made obvious when she went to stand in front of the class. Her skin had a sunkissed tan, she'd probably spent her summer outdoors. Her hair was dark and put up in two loose low buns. Her makeup was distinctly done in the style favored by western Tik Tok trends.
This situation… Teacher Nam thought to herself. It feels like a tiger accidentally stumbled into a pack of lions!
She continued, "Due to her unique circumstances she'll split her time between the Fashion department and here. Miss Mae, introduce yourself, please."
"Hello," Bonnie said with a small, unseasy smile, and continued in a heavy accent, "I'm Bonita Nam, but you call me Bonnie. Nice to meet you!"
She bowed at a perfect ninety degrees, stiff as a board, obviously not used to doing things like that.
Snickers could be heard from the seated students.
