Jaiden sighed and looked away from his notes for his test. He had lost track of time while studying and it was now ten in the night. He had been sitting there for four hours revising. A small weight dropped onto his lap. His eyes quickly shifted to look at what had landed there. Olive, his kitten, was looking up at him with his large multi-colored eyes. Jaiden's mouth curved up into a small smile as he picked up the kitten and held him in his arms, his heart warming.
"You always know when to brighten my day, huh?" He whispered quietly. Olive mewed in response and snuggled closer to his hand.
After a few minutes of petting Olive he closed his notes and sighed in relief. Looking at the notes had made him more stressed than before, and he decided to just wing the test, as he usually did. He had a hard time reading the notes anyways because of his brain constantly flowing with loud thoughts. As the night progressed the noisy thoughts seemed to quiet as Jaiden got more tired. He sluggishly stood from his desk chair and pushed it in. The desk lamp shut off with a small click as Jaiden flopped onto his bed.
A sigh of relief could be heard from Jaiden as his body relaxed into his soft mattress. Olive jumped on top of Jaiden and slowly walked onto his upper back and slinked into the hood of his hoodie. There Olive sighed happily and fell asleep.Jaiden opened his eyes with a startling remembrance of earlier actions. He stood up quickly, much to the disliking of Olive, who jumped onto the bed as Jaiden ran out of his room. (Jaiden walked back in his room a few seconds later to put on his shoes and then left the dorm for real.)
After dashing down the winding steps to the main floor of the building he ran past the main hall and the hundreds of pictures of people and places alike and outside into the chill night air.
The air was brisk and smelled like evergreen trees and freshwater. A small chill ran down Jaiden's spine and he folded his arms in discomfort of the cool November air. He walked quickly and quietly over to the treeline of evergreens but stopped in his tracks when he saw a small lump under a very special tree. Jaiden sighed sadly, a small sad smile set upon his face. He went closer. There, laying on the ground, pillowed by the soft grass, was Henry. Jaiden had gotten too focused on his studying and had completely forgotten that Henry and him had planned to meet under this very tree two hours earlier to talk. They hadn't gotten to talk to each other in over a week because they both had been so busy with their studies. Jaiden felt horrible. He was the one that wanted to talk with Henry and in the end he was the one that didn't make it there, yet Henry stayed out here and eventually fell asleep while waiting for Jaiden. He sighed and decided to apologize later.
Jaiden sat next to the sleeping form of Henry. He pulled him into his arms and held Henry close. As soon as Henry was in Jaiden's arms Henry shifted to hugging Jaiden around the stomach.
"You made it." a small, tired voice said, smothered by Jaiden's hoodie.
Jaiden held Henry tighter, his arms almost covering the small boy's figure. He looked up at the stars and leaned his head on their special tree. It was the one they had their first kiss at.
"Y-yeah, I did."
