*Mahiru's POV*

I wake up in my bed, disgruntled. Another Monday, another wacky day of school. I rub my eyes and look out the window. It's another sunny day outside.

I sigh to myself and smile. It really is beautiful out there. I take out my phone and take a picture of it.

I look at my notifications and smile. A good morning text from Sato, my best friend for as long as I can remember.

"Good morning Mahiru!"  Said the text. I typed back. "Good morning to you too Sato!"

I smile once again. Sure, I love Hiyoko a lot, but I always feel comfortable whenever I talk with Sato. It's why I always go to the reserve course to have lunch with her. She gives me that sense of comfort and protection, like if anyone slightly hurts me she would become super defensive.

Some people don't like having over-protective best friends, but I personally think it's adorable. Besides, I'm somewhat protective of Hiyoko as well. I guess Sato's behaviour is rubbing off on me?

I giggle to myself.

Speaking of which, I should text Sato and ask if it's okay for me to bring my other friends to lunch today, them being Ibuki, Hiyoko, and Mikan.

I quickly send her a text asking her the question, put my phone back down and get ready for the day.

After I'm finished getting dressed, I check my phone. Sure enough, there's two responses from Sato. One saying it's fine for me to bring my friends, the other asking if I can wait for her at her home.

I'm a bit confused at first since she's never asked this before, but I'm obviously not going to say no. Besides, it'll give me some extra time with Sato before school.

I quickly write down my response.

*Sato's POV*

I find myself at the dining table, eating a cheese sandwich, waiting for Mahiru's response.

I suddenly get a notification and sure enough, it's Mahiru!

"Of course! I'll be coming asap!"  The text reads.

I smile to myself. The idea of Mahiru coming over to my house, even if it's just outside waiting for me for a little bit, makes me happy. We had a sleepover together when we were little and that was the funnest day of my life, and Mahiru's as well I'm pretty sure.

I know all about how much Mahiru's dad sucked when she was little, so I help her heal from that too. She's gotten better since she's moved away from him but we still have our occasional talk about it now and again. We don't fight very often either.

It's like we have the ideal friendship or something...it's why I love Mahiru so much.

We of course have our bumpy moments, but nobody's perfect, right?

I hear the doorbell ring, interrupting my train of thought.

"It must be Mahiru!" I think to myself.

"Coming!"

I open the front door to Mahiru's sweet smile. She's just so...cute!

"Ok, you ready Sato?" Mahiru asks me. "Yeah, just wait a second, I need to get my notebook." I run quickly upstairs and grab my notebook. It contains some doodles of me and Mahiru together. I usually draw them when I'm bored in class.

I go back downstairs and lock the door and start walking to school with Mahiru, talking about all kinds of things 'till we finally arrive at Hope's Peak.

"Bye Sato! See you at lunch!" Mahiru waves. "Cya!" I wave back.

I sigh and eventually get to the reserve course building. I sit down in class and all of the sudden the teacher makes an announcement.

"We will be having a new student coming today! Ahem, may you please introduce yourself?" Our teacher looks at the new student. She nods.

"My name's Natsumi Kuzuryu." She introduces. "I can't believe I have to be stuck with you talentless idiots.."

"Kuzuryu...Kuzuryu...where does that sound familiar?"  I think to myself. "Wait...Fuyuhiko's...younger sister?"
