Before I begin with my review, I would like inform you that if you haven't watched the film yet then stop reading and watch them right away. The reason is that there is going to be spoilers ahead and without them I cannot fully review the movie.
The movie Drishyam had a good start and is still remembered by all those who have watched them so I am not telling much about this one. Lets move onto our film in hand - Drishyam 2
After watching the movie I can boldly say that it has met the expectations of the audience and even exceeded them.
The movie begins with a shot of the scene where Georgekutty (Mohanlal) comes out of the police station and it was seen by a stranger who is then caught by the police for some other crime.
The movie like the first film has its first half revolving around family life 6 years post the incident and the way how people are rumouring about the same.
The movie picks its pace when we realise that the police is running an undercover Ops to disclose the secrets. The Police team led by Murali Gopi nicely draws out the trajectory of the incidents that happened the night of Murder and finds out the date when Georgekutty has buried the body. Aug 3rd along with the time as around 3am in the morning.
Now the audience gets the impression that the hero will be caught soon as he started becoming careless and started drinking and all. As Murali Gopi says "over time the confidence of the culprit increases and his fear decreases" .
Meanwhile some shots are shown where Georgekutty is trying to make a film with Writer Saikumar and has also copyrighted his story. Now Murali strategically clear out the doubt of body being dumped at Church Cemetery (which was around the 50m radius which police arrived at with undercover Ops) but fails to get the exact location. This juncture the guy who was shown in the first shot remembers Mohanlal beingn seen on Aug 3rd when he was caught for murder case and was in jail for 6 years.
The police then starts a hidden excavation plan of the police station and tries to finish up all the works in 2 days. They get the body and meanwhile through CCTV Mohanlal gets to know about the excavation.
The police then gets permission to question georgekutty and family for one day. During questioning Mohanlal tells murali he will surrender and disclose the hidden dress of the murdered boy as a solid evidence.
The movie then reaches its climax scenes where the camera switches from the courtroom to Murali Gopi , Siddique and his wife. This time Saikumar makes an entry and starts telling Murali his interaction with Mohanlal. He says that the book Drishyam published 6 months back had this climax where the hero gets arrested for the crime.
The book is shown in the Court and police is blamed for cooking up this incident. Saikumar then tells that Mohanlal had another ending for the film with a different climax with risk elements as Mohanlal says "people are not happy with the hero getting caught". Mohanlal had asked Saikumar what are the proceedings when the body gets found after so many years and he tills him after enquiring in idukki where the book story is happening.
He starts telling the story where the main lead of the book befriends the Cemetery guy and digs out body of random teenager who died due to head injury. He then safe keeps it. He also befriends a security guard (with whom he was drinking on purpose) from the forensic department and the day when the police digs out the actual body our hero swaps them with his safekeeped skeleton.
He then burns the actual body and stealthily keep the ashes to an ashram where Siddique could carry out the final rituals of his child. The police at the end finally closes the case for the good.
Our hero keeps anticipating the next move of Police and awaits them and that itself is his punishment for the crime.
