The four troopers came around the corner, Warp and Fry carrying Eights on stretcher. Sunny and Buck came up the rear toting carts of ordinance. Master Ore surveyed the damages and once Eights was laid down the Fry, the groups medic, began to assess Eights leg. Breywen watched as he moved the blanket covering it, soaked crimson in one spot, to reveal what was underneath. Eights legs were gone, severed from knees down when a piece of metal was shoved into them. The bloody stumps were wrapped hap-hazardly in gauze. "General, Captain Eights is in critical condition. He may not make it," Fry said while taking two kolto stim injectors from his med pack and then injecting each into Eights thighs.
The temporary relief could be felt through the agony in the Force by both Breywen and her master, who was now walking over to the two troopers. "Breywen, come here and help me with this." Breywen strode over inquisitorially, having no clue what was going to be done. "Yes, master?" Master Sai-Kon took out one of his lightsaber hilts and ignited its golden blade, "We have to stop the bleeding or he will die. This is not going to be pleasant for anyone. I need you here," He pointed to the spot ahead of Eights helmeted head. "You are going to try and ease his pain as much as possible."
Breywen nodded in understanding and got onto her knees, she reached down and took of Eights helmet. Underneath it his eyes were closed, passed out from the pain. She reached down and cupped her hands around his temples. With a deep breath she reached out with the Force, feeling the neural pathways within his mind. She used the Force to dull them down, forcing certain ones to dampen the receiving inputs they were getting from the pain. She looked down to Master Ore who was looking at her and waiting. "Okay Master, now what." His face was a grimace when he replied, "Well, the hard part." With his lightsaber Master Ore began to cauterize Eights legs at the wound.
Eights immediately awoke with a jerk, as Breywen had not anticipated this move and her connection with him through the Force was sent spiraling out of control when the pain and agony from the action shot through his body and into his brain. Eights screamed, a horrible and twisted scream, audible over the sizzle of his flesh. The smell of which nearly made Breywen sick. "Breywen! Regain control!" Master Ore was frantically starting on the second leg now, and she placed her hands back onto Eights head and steadied herself. Her will controlled the Force, giving it direction once more to prevent the pain. Eights slumped back down and was panting heavily before passing out again.
Master Ore stood and deactivated his lightsaber. "Alright, Fry, rewrap the wounds and give him another round of injections," Master Ore strode over to the other troopers. "That went about as bad as it could, but we still have a mission to do. We need to find the forwarding station, and set up for a recovery of anything salvageable from the crash. Warp, where are we?"
The trooper Warp sat up and began using a data pad. "According to my scans sir, the middle of the jungle. Closest settlement is 15 clicks south." Sai-Kon stood up, "Then we have a course to scout. Myself, Buck, and Warp will travel to the settlement and enlist help for Eights. Breywen, Sunny, and Fry will stay here and watch over him." Breywen shifted, "Master, I should go with you, what if you need-" He raised his hand to stop her, "I need you here, Padawan. Your task is an important one. You need to defend Eights until we can return with help." Breywen lowered her head in disappointment, "I understand, master."
"Good, alight you two with me. You three make sure to protect Eights. Be vigilant, this jungle is strong in the Force but its allure is chaos. Breywen, trust in your instincts, and you'll do fine." The three of them stood and grabbed supplies they would need and departed for the settlement. Breywen stood up and walked to a tree close by. It wasn't quite like any tree she had ever seen. It had a thick trunk, but instead of grain it had fungal hollows. The tip of the tree spread into several hearty stalks that then looped down and housed massive pods on the ends that were yellow with purple zig zag stripes.
