"Hey Em, were almost here.." My brother Daniel vigorously shakes me awake from my short lived nap in the car.
I let out a loud, obnoxious groan and immediately reached for my neck... these cars are not comfortable whatsoever, especially being smushed in the back seat with a million boxes.
"My neck is killing me.." I rub the back of my neck in small circles, trying my absolute hardest to smooth out the knots created.
"You missed some beautiful views Em... Los Angeles is completely different than Jersey!" My mother looked back at me with a smile.
I couldn't help but roll my eyes at her... I know its rude, but in my defense I did NOT want to move to Los Angeles... I even offered to work 3 jobs so my mom didn't have to take this job here.
"Yeah.. wonderful." I say in a sarcastic tone, trying to brush out my long blonde hair with my small fingers.
"You both promised you would try to like it here... for me." My mother said with a pouty tone.. I knew if I was in the front seat she would have given me the puppy dog look..
"Yeah ma.. we are." Daniel shrugged and slightly looked back at me in the back seat. I shrugged back.
My mother Lucille is a beautiful spirit that always looks at the best in everything.. it is something that I admire about her. She is also the most hardworking driven person I know...
Lucille adopted me when I was 4 years old after my parents "went on a work trip" as I was told..
I stayed with Lucille, her husband David, and Daniel while they were gone... but my stay was long lived because they never came back for me. As horrible as that is.. I'm okay with it.
You may ask why I am okay with this unfortunate event of being an orphan at such a young age...well I will tell you. I would have never met my family, which is the most important thing to me. I owe everything to them.
Around 4 years later, David passed away so it was really just me, Daniel, and Lucille. After that, our bond became unbreakable..
Apart from my mom, Daniel is my best friend. Wherever Daniel was, I followed and vise versa. We are the exact same age and only a few weeks apart, so people usually just referred to us as the LaRusso twins in our hometown.
My mom and Daniel were carrying on the conversation while I just watched out the window. California didn't seem as great as my mom cracked it up to be. The buildings were really close together and everyone just looked a little 'snobby' as some might say. Yeah, there was palm trees and beaches but there was no character. The little town we grew up in at least had character.
"How much longer?" I groan from the back seat.. after this long ass car ride my legs were starting to cramp up. I had no comfortable room with all these boxes and bags digging into my side.
"About 5 miles." My mom smiles.. I sigh... close but not close enough. "I can't wait for you guys to see the pool."
"Yeah ma.. we know." We both say perfectly in unison. Daniel and I laugh together, knowing that drives our mom nuts.
"You guys drive me crazy.." She smiles and chuckles.
About 20 minutes later, we reach this white apartment building with teal blue writing on it.
South Seas it reads loud and proud..
I take a deep breath and step out of the cramped car. Welp.. this is it Emma. This is your new life.
"Come on! All hands on deck!" Mom yells from the trunk.. she's already pulling out a few bags and a laundry basket.
Daniel is already unstrapping his bike from the top of the trunk so I decide to help mom with her bags.
