I woke up on my small twin bed in the corner, the sun from the little window shining right in my eyes. Remind me to either find some curtains at the local thrift store or at least a sheet..
I have no clue what time it even is... all I know is that I smell moms bacon cooking up in the kitchen. That alone made me spring right out of bed, almost stumbling on the blanket that came down with me.
I walk down the hallway to see Daniel and my mom sitting at the table eating breakfast and drinking orange juice.
"Wow, nice of you guys to wait for me." I say sarcastically, rubbing my head.
"Hey you know, I was going to wake you up but by the looks of all the drool on your pillow it seemed like you were having a good sleep." Daniel sarcastically laughs at me, mom following suit.
I sarcastically laugh at him "Ha ha so funny." I snatch the piece of bacon out of his hand that was trailing up to his mouth.
"Hey, you know I was going to get my own piece of bacon but by the looks of it, yours looked better." I smile, shoving the piece of bacon in my mouth.
Daniel just scoffs but a small smile plants on his face.
"Now you two stop. It's too early for all the bickering." Mom laughs pulling out a chair for me to sit. I graciously walk around and take a seat in the middle of the two, pulling a piece of toast from the plate.
"Listen Ma.. do we have a sheet or at least a curtain I can cover up my window with... I thought I was going to go blind this morning." I bargain with her.
"At least you got a window.. my room is as dark as an alley way." Daniel rolls his eyes.
"I can see what I can find, hun. In the meantime grab a spare towel or somethin." She smiles, grabbing my hand and giving it a firm squeeze.
"You know Daniel, we could bring the bunk beds back and just share the window room?" I smile at him knowing he HATED sharing a room with me... especially because I made him sleep in the top bunk. My favorite memories was him falling off the ladder in the middle of the night because he had to go to the bathroom.
"I'd rather sleep in the green pool outside." He laughs. I can't help but follow. That pool is horrendous.
"That reminds me.. when the handy-man comes up here I have to ask him about that.." Mom takes a mental note, washing down the rest of her orange juice.
The rest of the morning was filled with unpacking boxes and dusting off the old furniture left behind by the former renters.
"Hey Em, we're leaving in 15." Daniel shouts from down the hallway.
"For what?" I asked confused, picking my blanket up off the floor in my room.
"Oh come on.." He walks in, throwing his hands up in the air.
I give him a confused look...
"The beach party?? Freddy invited us yesterday?" He answers, finally. Honestly I was so tired from moving I completely forgot about this beach thing. I truly don't want to go, but I know Daniel would be awkward if he went alone.. and then id feel bad for making him go solo.
"Ugh." I throw my head back. "I remember."
"15 minutes.." he points in my direction "You better be ready!"
"Yeah yeah whatever.." I push him out of the door, closing it behind him.
If i'm being honest with myself... i'd almost rather just do my own thing today. Maybe hit up a book store? Take a walk and find some old lady to befriend? Hey.. maybe even go find a curtain so I didn't have to use a washed up old towel.
