It was a warm sticky and sweaty afternoon, all I could smell was candy floss. The sky was bright blue and the birds were singing. The grass was bone dry after a beautiful rainstorm I had heard last night from my bedroom window, as I had on most nights, but today however it was scorching hot. It was probably the hottest day recorded on record.I could hear laughter, so I followed the laughter.
Bella, our old golden retriever's fur, was brushing past my bare legs as we ran after the laughter. It led me to an abrupt stop as my eyes fell upon someone who I called my best friend. His eyes fell down onto mine and his blonde hair fringed his face, his freckled speckled face was almost smiling up at the birds in the distance. This was Luca, my best friend since I can remember. We both laughed together, our voices forming a beat.
That's when I heard it. The loud bag. It was so loud that Bella my dog, started chasing after it. We both ran together after her, my hat bobbing slightly in the change of wind.
Luca and me both couldn't believe our luck. The ice cream man was here and we both loved ice cream. Chocolate was our favorite, with sprinkles and sauce. My heart was beating faster at the thought of getting to eat it. My mind grew foggy, but luckily I was alright.
We both lept up, rushing towards the tea tent in search of our parents.
Looking upwards I noticed that my mum and Luca's dad were talking outside of the tent, beer in each of their hands.
"Daddy can me and Abi get an ice cream?" "please?"
"Yeah sure, but only get one scoop, and be careful please, there are cars arriving to set up their events."
"Yes thanks Daddy and I will."
I watched as Luca's dad handed him a note and my excitement overcame my joy. We both smiled and my mummy looked down at me and hugged me, before we both headed towards the ice cream van with bella also.
The ice cream van was in colours of different pastel shades, and it also had a distinct smell.
We both ordered our ice creams, both chocolate obviously. Luca handed the man our money. But was stopped suddenly as we heard him speak, "hey you kids, where are your parents? You shouldn't be hanging around here on your own, you guys look about four."
Luca looked worried so I spoke for us "we are not four me and Luca are six and my mummy is watching us from over there." I pointed my stubby little finger towards the location, and sure enough my mum was waving at the ice cream guy.
He looked at the both of us and smirked, gave us our change and we left.
"He was scary." was all we could muster.
Bella let out a bark as she headed towards the motor bike area. We were at a fair in a huge park and acts were getting set up. Luca and I headed towards the seating area and sat down with our parents.
As we watched the show before us.
It was amazing, bright colours soaring past each other. Loud bangs. And huge screams were heard.
We both glanced at each other and smiled. Watching the act whilst eating our ice cream. This was the best day ever.
