Scorpius Hyperion Malfoy was beginning his seventh and final year at Hogwarts this coming year. He had shiny blonde hair just like his father, but his mother's love of reading. Theodore Remus Malfoy was starting his fourth year at Hogwarts, and he looked and acted just like Hermione did when she was younger. Nymphadora Molly Malfoy was approaching her first year, and was almost exactly like her father, the mischievous little brat. Last but most certainly not least, eight year old Narcissa Ginevra Malfoy was the exact opposite of Scorpius: curled brown hair (that was a lot neater than Hermione's, but she'd never admit that), but the taunting attitude of Draco.
Hermione knocked on Scorpius' door when she saw that he wasn't close to being ready. "Young man..." she started, knowing that she didn't have to say anything more.
Her eldest son jumped and sat up quickly, slamming his book closed. "Yes?"
She leaned against the doorframe, crossing her feet at the ankles. Hermione tipped her head and gave Scorpius "the Look." He groaned and slumped, raised his wand, and yelled, "Pack!"
His belongings crammed themselves into Scorpius' trunk, and Hermione sighed. He'd been using magic all summer since he turned seventeen. She realized she couldn't exactly scold him for packing his trunk, and left to see how Theodore was packing. Of course, he was already set, twisting his wand between his fingers. Hermione nodded in satisfaction, and met Draco in the hall. They exchanged a quick kiss, earning a vomiting sound followed by laughter in their daughters' room. Dora and Narcissa shared a room, and Hermione and Draco entered. The girls were rolling on the floor, having just witnessed their parents kiss.
Hermione had already packed Nymphadora's trunk with her the night before, and chuckled as she left the room. Scorpius and Theodore were now in the sitting room, the oldest of the two standing in a salute. Scorpius cracked a grin, and Draco ruffled his hair. Dora and Cissa joined the room, still giggling, and they walked to the car as a family. She thought back to the moment she convinced Draco to buy a car. He hated it. There was no other word to describe it. He argued that Apparition or Floo Powder was much more efficient, but Hermione reminded him that they couldn't use magical transport to go to Muggle places. He had given in after her side of the argument.
Oh yes, she and Draco still bickered all the time, and they laughed about it afterwards because of nineteen years ago. Ron still reminded them that they were only together under his permission, but Hermione and Draco would only scoff in return.
They arrived at King's Cross Station at ten fifty, ten minutes before boarding. Hermione, Nymphadora, and Narcissa entered first, after pretending to laugh while leaning on the barrier. Draco entered with the boys thirty seconds later. Hermione immediately found Harry and Ginny with James, Al, and Lily, and went over to greet them.
Hermione hugged Harry than Ginny, and Draco shook hands with them. Harry had taken the news of Hermione Draco's engagement seventeen years ago better than expected. Both Hermione and Draco had brought their wands in defense, but those precautions were not needed. Ron, on the other hand, had definitely tried to control his anger, but in the end struggled to say that he was happy for them. In seventeen years, Ron had tried to become friendly with Draco, but Draco did not do the same.
"How's Al?" Hermione asked, knowing the tension between Harry and Albus, considering that Albus was sorted into Slytherin, despite his Gryffindor ancestors.
"Doing better," replied Harry with a nervous glance towards his youngest son, who was busy talking to Theodore. "How are your kids?"
"Fine," said Hermione, smiling. "You know, I always thought when parents talked about their children, that they were just exaggerating. I now realize that kids is all parents talk about."
That's when Ron joined them, and Hermione jumped at the sudden appearance of him. To Hermione's grand surprise, he brought Katie Bell, who played with him on the Chudley Cannons. He and Katie started dating two years ago, and Ron had revealed to Hermione that he planned on proposing soon.
"Hi!" Ron cheered when he caught up to them. When Harry and Hermione looked at him with what she concluded to be confused looks, he explained, "Scorpius and James are my godchildren, aren't they? I think I can see them off for their final year."
As Ron left to pep talk Scorpius and James, Hermione made her way to Katie. "How are you?" she asked, throwing arms around her.
Katie hugged her back. "I'm great!" She pulled away from the hug and showed off her left hand. Hermione gaped at the beautiful diamond ring on Katie's finger.
"Oh, Katie, congratulations!"
"Wait!" called a new voice, joining them. Ginny took Katie's hand and examined the ring. "I heard congrats, and I had to come see what was up!" Ginny then started mumbling something about how Ron could've afforded something that extravagant as she shuffled away.
When Hermione's watch told her that it was a couple minutes before the train left, she gathered with her family. She bent down in front of a trembling Nymphadora. Her daughter's eyes were bloodshot, and it looks like she had prevented herself from crying.
"Mum, I'm scared," she said plainly.
Hermione pat Dora's denim jacket, and adjusted her messy bangs. "Don't be nervous," she said. "You'll be fine. You are the daughter of Draco Malfoy and Hermione Granger, the Minister for Magic. People would be mental to bother you." Hermione hated using her fame to explain things like this to her child, but it calmed her down.
Nymphadora smiled weakly and nodded, before turning around and running towards the train for a spot next to Lily. Scorpius and Theodore hugged their parents good-bye, as usual, and made their separate ways on the Hogwarts Express. Hermione stood straight next to Draco, who placed a proud hand on her shoulder. She turned towards him and twiddled her hands in his hair, kissing him again.
"Hermione and Draco, sitting in a tree-" sang James and Scorpius from the train.
Hermione shot the boys a look, and they apologized as they sat back in their seats. The adults laughed, and Hermione waited until the train was out of sight before she snogged Draco senseless.
And as they drove back home, Hermione felt Draco's hand land on top of hers on the wheel. She pulled over and looked sideways at him.
"I love you," Draco said all of a sudden.
"I love you, too," Hermione replied, confused by the sudden remark, but smiled nonetheless. "Thanks for keeping me safe."
A/N: I realize that epilogue was terrible, but whatever! I hope you enjoyed "Safe"!
