just my luck

a new beginning

My parents had finally dropped me off at the Academy. I was more nervous than excited about going to a new school in the middle of the year but with my luck it shouldn't be too bad. One of the staff members took my bags up to my room as the principal gave me a tour of the large building.

The halls weren't as quiet as my old school, as we walked through the many different areas and rooms of the school I could hear faint laughter, music, and yelling from the classrooms.
'at least this place won't be boring' i thought to myself as the tour finally ended.

I was then walked to my room to settle in. There was obviously already someone else living there, i didn't know i would have a roommate but it was a welcomed surprise. One side of the room was empty except for a bed, an empty closet, a nightstand and a desk. The other side had so many posters the walls were barely visible and the bed was almost completely covered in stuffed animals. A large pc, two monitors and a bright green keyboard took up the desk space as well as some figurines from animes and videogames.

It was impressive to me, how much a person can be so interested in something like my roommate is. Im only at this school because I have some dumb luck, thats all. Other than being able to win the lottery ten times i'm pretty boring. Sure I like videogames and comics but compared to everyone else at Hopes Peak, i'm nobody, just another unrecognizable face in the crowd.

I might as well be the ultimate angsty teen with that attitude. But it does bother me. I've always wanted to be special, or have someone make me special...

It had been over an hour when i finally finished setting up my room; compared to my roommate my side looked pretty boring, but it was fine. Just as i had finished settling in i heard the door open. I turned to see a small petite boy with brown hair and pale, rosy skin. He wore a baggy dark green sweatshirt and black shorts that fell down to his knees with matching knee-high green socks. He looked over to me with glassy amber eyes and took a moment to understand the situation.

He fully walked in to the room closing the door behind him and stuck his hand out to greet me.
"Hello! Im Chihiro Fujisaki. You must be my new roommate, it's nice to meet you." He said with a soft smile. If i didn't know better i would've thought he was a girl. I cleared my throat and shook his hand.

"Yes, i'm- i'm Makoto Naegi." We let go of each others hands and a soft silence filled the room. Chihiro twiddled with his thumbs a bit before looking back up at me, "so... what's your talent if you don't mind me asking." he queried with a silvery voice as he walked over to sit on his bed.

I fumbled with my words a bit until i spat out an answer "luck!" Chihiro looked at me, amused, cracking a slight smile. My face flushed red and i felt hotter by the second as I attempted to fix my answer.
"ah! uhm i mean- im lucky. thats... my talent" I chuckled nervously. Chihiro put his hands together and responded cheerfully "that's amazing! i never knew someone could have a talent like that!" I muttered a short response and sat down on my own bed, not knowing what to do or say next. Chihiro stood up and sat down at his desk.
"so... are you the ultimate gamer or something then?" I asked. He laughed a bit at my question, turning to face me again.
"no no... while i do play games im not the best at them. Im a programmer."
"That actually makes alot of sense." I responded, now a bit embarrassed.
Chihiro smiled and nodded to me as he put on his headset and typed away on the light up keyboard. Glancing over again I saw that his headset had catears on it, 'how cute' I said to myself, not minding the odd thought of another boy being cute.
