(1850) Tipi's are everywhere, bodies lie on the ground. Three caucasian boys ride up on horses. One has a toddler with him. They get off their horses, kneel down in respect for the dead, then look in the tipi's to see if anyone has survived. In one tipi, Alexander, finds a toddler who is, three years old. She is a Cherokee N.A. She is nude at this age. He is seven years old. Grabbing a large cloth, he wraps her up, grabs some of her belongings, and picks her up. He doesn't want her to see the sadness of war outside of her tipi, so he covers her eyes. Back on the horses, they ride off. Through-out the years, Alex, gives her a Cherokee name, so she can know where she came from. But since he can't speak the language, he teaches her French.

(1863) In a cabin, the Cherokee girl, Amadahy, is now six-teen years old. Amadahy means, forest water. She still lives with Alexander, Brad, Jeremy, and Hugh. Jeremy, is the same age as she is. A few miles down, is another house, with porch furniture. Brad, goes down to meet their neighbors. Colleen, Josh E., and Lilly, live there. They help with the underground railroad, by hiding escaped slaves in their hidden basement, and sending them north. Other orphans from wars or sickness, walk around and hope for hand outs. Some run away from a bad life at home. Suddenly, Colleen becomes a home for runaways, and the men help her expand, her and Josh's home.

Amadahy, glares at Lilly, amazed how, Christopher Columbus, could mix the two of them up. "I don't thinks she likes me." Lilly, tells Colleen. "This is a, no hate, zone." Colleen replies. Amadahy, goes to the house, to help hide the ex-slaves. By now, there are about, twenty-five run aways, from all over, and all races. Josh puts up a map of the world. "Lets tell people about your countries." He says. Lilly, gets up first. "I'm from, India. It's over here." She points it out on the map. "What sort of animals are in your country?" Colleen encourages. She tells about the, monkeys, tigers, and leopards. When she describes an elephant, everyone laughs. They don't believe anything like that exists. "Fine. They want to laugh?" Lilly thinks. She then describes, the more deadly animals. Cobras, spiders, other poisonous things. Nobody laughs now. When Amadahy, goes up, she tries to compete with Lilly, making the animals right where they live, sound dangerous. She makes the wolves, cougars, and bears, sound ferocious. "Then we have, eagles. They seem like normal birds at first, but they have wing spans as wide as seven feet!" Everyone gets scared now, wondering how they went that long without seeing one. The others tell about their countries, and then we go out to look for runners. Amadahy, isn't the only Native now. A Blackfoot named, Petah (golden eagle), and a Seminole named, Aquene (peace), are now in the house. Lilly, now paranoid, looks up at the sky for birds. A large bird swoops down past her face. She yells, and runs towards the house. "An eagle! An eagle!' She cries, panting through breaths. "Where?" Amadahy asks. Quietly, they move to where she was. Amadahy laughs. "That's a hawk." She rolls her eyes. That evening, there's a knock at the door. Rain pours down from the navy blue sky. A runaway that saw the candle in the window, stands there, soaked and wet. Immediately, everyone pulls him inside, hands him a towel, and makes him a bowl of hot food. Chilli and cornbread is made for the people who need it. The helpers ate earlier. The new comers name is, Antonio.

At the table, a group of six speak Spanish. The others shrug, not knowing what they're saying. Jeremy and Amadahy, begin speaking french, and the six, turn and look at them. "I gave her a Cherokee name, but I couldn't teach the language. So, I taught her mine." Alex explains. He then says something to her in Swedish, and they laugh. Now, Jeremy shrugs. The next day, the group walks around or sits on picnic blankets, trying to act normal, waiting to help runaways. They don't usually come during the day, but the river cuts the trail and scent off, from the dogs and people. A girl comes across the river, struggling. She looks as if she's drowning. "Y at-il pas d'eau en Afrique?" Amadahy asks Jeremy. He was thinking the same thing. They get up to go help her. Amadahy, grabs a long, sturdy, stick, and holds it out for her to grab. The girl panics a little more, then realizes that they're helping her. Jeremy and Amadahy, grab her wrists when she's close enough, and pull her out of the river. Amadahy, pats her on the back, then gestures for Jeremy to cover her tracks. Sweeping a plant that makes people and dogs sneeze, he swipes away her tracks. Four other runways come through the river soon after, or at night. They stay at Colleen and Josh's house, instead of going north. "You're grabbing children like we did when we were younger." Brad says to Colleen. "I know. They're cute together. Jeremy, likes Amadahy, and Amadahy, likes, .... everyone else." Colleen responds. Brad and Hugh, laugh. Petah, Aquene, and Cat, pick blueberries in the bushes. Aquene, always carried a woven basket with something in it. It's down while she picks berries. "What do you keep in that anyway?" Cat wonders. "I'll show everybody later." She says. When later comes, they're gathered around. "Ready?" She braces them. When she opens it, it's an alligator, from her home state. "Aaaa!" They yell and run, never seeing anything like it. "That's a monster!" Chris yells. "Hexx, naw!" Ruben agrees. "But, why are his teeth outside of his head?!" Miguel wonders, holding onto his brother.
