Almost as soon as that was said, the world of light became suddenly dark and a few seconds later I was opening my eyes with a yawn as if I had been asleep. Until I actually looked around, I actually wondered if that had not just been a horrible nightmare. But then I noticed I was lying on a carpet of old and fresh exotic leaves instead of my twin sized bed.
Around me were the kinds of giant trees most people would only see in on a screen with strange looking fibrous or ridged barks. Instead of the gym shorts I went to sleep in I was instead wearing a full body suit of thick wire meshing that was the same pale color as my skin. The alien god had told us about these suits, they were as alive as we were and could change shape at will to serve different purposes.
It was simply called a survival suit they had designed just for us.
The first living thing besides myself that I came across was a something like a giant cricket with an ant's mandibles and a shiny gray-green body. It was almost as big as I was! Finding myself alone in some unknown place surrounded by unknown possibilities, this insect with four jumping legs was enough to make me take my morning piss on the spot.
My wetting myself seemed to unsettle the creature, causing it to take a 'step' back and lower itself defensively. It probably thought my fear reaction was an actual defense mechanism, like a deterring scent or venom to make myself inedible. Many small creatures had such defense mechanisms.
Because of its size and obvious leg strength as both an insect in general and one obvious evolved for leaping, I knew it would be foolish to try running away from it. Because of its large mandibles made for gripping and carrying goods had rows of teeth inside for securing live prey I knew it was at least omnivorous. If I were to have any chance of getting away, this thing would have to be crippled if not dead.
In short moment it took me to analyze the enemy and make a choice, the super cricket was already preparing to jump. With no other options I could only lunge forward and punch straight ahead at the cricket's head. This was far from the first time that I had ever been in a fight, but it was the first time since my first fight that I was completely unprepared for what would happen next.
One second I was getting ready to punch and as soon as I decided to thrust my arm out my meshed fist was already smashing into the cricket's face above its mandibles. I knew that I would be stronger and faster than I remembered. However, I did not know that I could make such instantaneous movements with enough destructive force to completely smash the giant insect's exo-skull.
A split second after the insect's body curled up and stiffened there was a loud ringing in my ears before a horribly familiar voice announced to the world, "First Blood achievement has been awarded to: Survivor 3295743." Then, from inside my head in the same area as the ringing, that same voice says, "In reward for your achievement, survival suit functionality has been increased and basic growth limitations have been removed."
Did I have any idea what those words meant at the time? Not at all. However, it did not take a genius to know that increased functionality for something called a survival suit was probably as big of a bonus as having growth limitations removed.
Knowing that it would be better in the future to avoid such direct interaction with the local wildlife, I came up with he plan to arm myself and test my strength a little by ripping the insect's mandibles off. They were both a less than a foot in length but they had a fair amount of weight to them. With the teeth inside, they would suffice as crude clubs.
With no idea how to actually use my suit I felt much better after arming myself. Now that I had better means of protecting myself I felt like I needed to find somewhere safe to hide while I figured things out. Sadly, I had no idea what safe was yet.
