Chapter 1
Kaylyn's P.O.V
Monday morning. My least favorite day of the week was Monday, easily.
I hit my alarm clock, and groaned. Ugh, I knew I had to get up. Did I want to? Nope, but I had to. I rolled out of bed and onto the floor. Literally, the floor was cold and hard, but I still didn't want to. I crawled like a baby to my bathroom. Yeah today was destined to be exhausting.
I pulled myself up using the sink and looked in the mirror. Dear God. I look like some wild animal. Staying up last night watching movies with Matt was fun, but I regretted it now.
Matt had been my boyfriend for two years. He helped me with remounting the coffee shop my sister and I owned. I had been mine and Mckenzie's dream for years to own a little coffee shop. One where people could exchange books, meet new people, perform at open mics, and just have an overall fun experience.
Matt and the coffee shop we're basically the two most important thing in my life. They kept me sane. I lived in the apartment above the coffee shop. It was small, but I made do; An un married 18 year old doesn't need much room.
I got ready for work. It didn't take long I pulled my hair into a bun and used a red bandana as a head band. My eye makeup was very basic and natural. I wore a loose fitting white tank top and black skinny jeans and my white converses. I accessorized with my black cross ring and red rose stud earrings. I finished my look off with my signature red lips. Yep. This outfit screamed Kaylyn.
I walked downstairs into the actual coffee shop. I looked out the door and then to the clock. 7:03.
"Oh shit. Mr.Simmors." I mumbled sprinting to unlock the door, setting the chairs at this normal table down on my way. Sure enough, he was sitting in front of the building on the bench. We had nicknamed the "Mr. Simmors Bench."
I fumbled through my keys to find the one that unlocked the door, but I eventually did.
"Oh my gosh! I am so sorry!" I said singing opening the door.
"Its quite alright dear." Mr. Simmors replied, as he slowly got up.
Mr. Simmors was 73 years old and lived in the apartment building just a block away. He came and had coffee here every morning. He was one of my best friends, honestly he listened to me and there was never a dull moment with him around.
"I'm sorry, I didn't have coffee ready yet. I got up late, and didn't have time to make it, but Ill go do that now."
"Its fine. I've got time." he said pulling his chair out.
I headed to the back, and started making coffee. I heard my sister coming through the door.
"Morning Mr. Simmor!" Mckenzie said walking towards the back.
My sister McKenize was four years older then me. We had shared the dream of opening a coffee shop and when we did, we couldn't have been more excited. Kenzie lived with her fiancé and gave me the small apartment above the shop. Kenzie barely cleared'4'10", while I was nearing 5'8". We were actually stepsisters, but when were so close we just said we were sisters.
I stared the coffee pot and went out and sat next to Mr. Simmons.
"So, What's are you doing today?"
"Nothing really."
"Well, I'm just working all day, so it will probably be very boring."
"Make the most out of it."
"Oh, I'll try." I said getting up and going to get Mr. Simmors cup of freshly brewed coffee. I took it out to him.
"Thank you dear."
"Welcome." I said as my first official customer of the day walked in.
I worked hard all morning, until around 10am, when things slowed down a little. Matt walked in.
"You're a little late, don't you think?"
"Yeah, I know, I'm sorry." he said walking behind the counter, "I was at the mall. It's really busy. There's teenage girls literally everywhere. It's ridiculous."
"Interesting," I said back.
"Yeah, there's some big concert this week, but I don't who's performing." Kenzie said.
"Well, that interesting. Mandy, Hannah and I perform here Wednesday night, so that has to be the reason," I said with a wink.
"Oh, I'm sorry," Matt said kissing my cheek, "Well, I guessing this means a lot of business for us this week."
Oh yeah, Mandy, Hannah and I were performing for the first time ever, and there was a big concert in town which meant we'd be super busy. This was great. Oh, and Matt had been really distant lately which kind of had me worried. A lot was going on right now, which meant I was headed for a break down. Wonderful.
"Bye kids!" Mr. Simmors said leaving the shop.
"Bye Mr. Simmors!" we replied in unison.
Well, this week will be fun.
