The song is somewhat relevant to the chapter but mostly irrelevant. Enjoy!
~ Lauri's P.O.V ~
"Wait you said your name is Lauri Gibson, right?" Reese asked as we walked to his car.
"Yes," I said dragging the word out sounding like a snake.
"And what is your ex-boyfriend's name?"
"John, John Doe, why do you ask?"
"Shoot me with a pistol and bury me six feet under! Please tell me you're lying," he said pleadingly.
"I'm not lying, I have no reason to," I said looking him in the eyes.
"You do know that we are step-brothers right?" He asked sounding like he was trying his best not to break the thin layer of ice that was the barrier between the two of us.
"You have got to be kidding me," I said a little too loudly.
"I wish I was shortcake but I'm not. Our parents got married about two years ago, a little bit after my mother finally got over my brother's death."
"Then how come I never saw you at the house?"
"Because I was either visiting my father or I was locked up in my room or I was busy with stuff outside the house or here at the boxing ring," he said as we drove down the highway.
"How come I never saw you guys together, like ever," I asked curiously.
"He doesn't really like me or my mom, he believes that his mom could've stayed if his dad if it weren't for us. He didn't even go to my brother's burial site, he's says that Brandon got what he deserved." I gasped in all the years that I've known John he would never do or say something like that but here lately I don't know what to believe anymore. "Yeah he says almost every day that he wishes that we would just roll over and die. Sometimes we would get into fights and he would get angry because he lost. There were days I would come home from matches and tournaments to find my room completely trashed." I looked at his hands and was surprised to see him gripping the steering wheel so hard that his knuckles were turning white.
"Reese, calm down," I said softly as I placed my hand on his thigh.
"We're almost to the house, do you your parents mind you staying out late?"
"No, my mom thinks I'm at Matthew's house place with Sierra for our weekly sleepover and they know where I am so it's cool. I know that they'll cover for me and plus they'll let me know if I need to get back super quick." I said smiling at him.
"Okay good because I want you to speed the night with me," he said as we pulled into his driveway.
"Alright, I'm down. This could be phase one of our completely unplanned plan," I said the last part more to myself but he agreed with a smirk; as we got out of the car we set phase one into motion.
"You're so sweet Reese," I cooed to him as we walked through the front door.
"Hey punk, I see you're ... home." John said trailing off as he saw me hanging off his step-brother's arm like a certified tramp.
"Yeah me and Lauri just got in from my match," he smiled but it didn't reach his eyes like at the gym but there was a twinkle of amusement in them.
"What are you doing with my girlfriend punk?" John growled out getting in Rees's face; the fire in John's eyes was scary, it burned brighter the any real fire that I've ever seen.
"Excuse me, but if my memory serves me correct, she broke up with you two weeks ago when you used her for sex and dirty money. I also remember asking her out today after my match, so I do believe that she is my girlfriend now." Reese said triumphantly as he poked his chest out with pride. My heart stopped for a split second before starting back up at pace that could put a race horse to shame.
