Just then, she heard a car horn beside her. She turned and saw a black, shiny Kia Sonet.

“Should I come and help you in or what?” Leonard muttered, peeping at her through the window.

She looked at him emotionally. She was hurt, but she didn’t want to follow him. For any reason. It’s just so unfortunate destiny had to put her in this mess. Amelia hasn’t been so disgraced like today.

Thinking about how to walk with her torn skirt, Leonard jumped out of his car and carried her in, carefully placing her in the passenger seat. He entered and drove off. It was a silent drive. He took her home.

“Thanks a lot for today. You’ve done so much for me. I’m grateful.” Amelia said to Leonard, too shy to look at him.

“No, it’s nothing. Make sure you take care of yourself, okay?”

“Okay, sir.” She replied to him.

About to open the door, he held her back. It was a reflex action and his hand touched hers involuntarily. Amelia stared at him as he slowly took his hand away.

“Umm... I’d like you to be my personal assistant. That’s if it’s fine with you.” He murmured.

“Really? “A flash of smile went through her sad face.

It lit up immediately, as if she’d always wanted to hear it. “It would be a pleasure. When can I start working, sir?”

“Anytime, whenever you wish.”

“I’ll come tomorrow, sir. Thanks a lot for this.” She muttered in an exciting voice.

It suddenly looked as if it did not hurt at all her. Amelia opened the door and came out. Not bothering to look at her turn skirt or her hurting knee. “See you tomorrow sir, bye!” She waved at him.

Leonard replied with a thin smile, still watching on her. He didn’t want to leave. He wanted to watch her till she gets in. So at least he would know she’s safe. Amelia turned back slowly, holding the torn part of her skirt together at the back.

Although it made her walk like a cold duckling; she find her way into the apartment that looked so dark and quiet.

Leonard couldn’t help but to smile. He watched till she got into her apartment. Deep in thoughts, he noticed a pain in his hand. He got a slight bruise on the edge of his wrist. That must be from the blows he gave the fat guy from the gang. He looked at it and kept on wondering why he was even smiling in the first place. It’s been a while since he last smiled.

8:00 a.m.

The Following Morning.

Amelia woke up as early as possible so she could get in before his secretary, June, stops her again. Getting to the company, she met June there already.

“Yes, how may I help you?” She rolled her eyes at her.

“Ummm.. Good morning. I’m looking for Mr. Leonard. Mr. Leonard Jacobson.” Amelia called his name the way she remembered it.

June couldn’t help but to let out a funny laugh. She took off her clean, reading glasses and faced Amelia.

“So because you came here yesterday, you think I’d let you in just like that?! And how did you get his name?”

“He asked me to come and start work as his personal assistant. You can go and ask him.”

“That’s not possible, ugly bitch!” June stuttered. “Just get outta here! As you can see, I have a lot to do.” She wore back her glasses on her cube-like face and started scribbling down some things into a clean sheet of paper.
