I am so sorry I didn't think of this before but I will definitely start doing more. Also, a little bit of background for this chapter. Your parents split up and your father lives in a different state, so over the summer, you visit your father.

I smiled as I was taking to a few friends of mine as we walked down to the cafeteria in our school. I've been friends with them for a while now and when I told them that I was non-binary, they totally understood and immediately practiced using my correct pronouns.

We walked into the cafeteria filled with people talking and laughing.

We got our lunch and sat at our usual spot but this time was different. A group of boys were sitting in our spot. I was the first to sit down, I didn't really mind because they probably wouldn't acknowledge that we were there anyway.

My friends sat down after I did and my friend Judy started talking to the guys. I had assumed that she knew them and started eating.

"Y/n!!" Judy called my name.

I looked up from my food.

"This is Eugene! He's in our Math class!"

I swallowed the food that was in my mouth and spoke, "Oh! I didn't even notice." I smiled at him.

"I'm Y/n. Also, please refer to me as They/Them."

He blushed a bit. "I'm Eugene, uhhh I go by He/Him."

I nodded and went back to my food.

After classes were over, I walked to my locker and got what I needed. I waved by to my friends and walked out of the large building. I was almost off school property when I felt a hand on my shoulder.

It was Eugene.

He was a little out of breath and he had one of his hands on his knee and the other one, as I said, was on my shoulder.

I was slightly startled. "Eugene! Can I help you?"

He inhaled, "Yeah. I was..wondering if we could exchange phone numbers."

"Oh. Yeah, sure!" I got my phone from my pocket and handed it to me and he handed me his. I put my number in my phone as "Y/n L/N" and he handed me my phone back and I handed his back.

"Well, I'll see you later!" I waved goodbye to him.

Months went by of being friends with Eugene. Soon, we began hanging out all the time. He had a soft personality when he's with me. I met a few of his other friends and we hung out regularly.

Soon school was over and summer had come. I was excited to go to my dads house, but I would miss my friends. Especially, Eugene.

"Do you really have to go?" Eugene was at my house while I was packing.

"Mhm. I would let you come but it's too late to tell my dad that you would be coming with."

He sighed. "What am I gonna do without you for the summer?"

I chuckled. "You do have Judy, Zion, Lawrence, Harry and Ethan."

"Yeah but it's not gonna be the saaaame."

"Oh gosh, suck it up. You big baby."

He laughed.

"What can I do to help you pack?"

"Hmm. Uh, well. Can you grab my brush from the bathroom?"

He nodded and walked into the bathroom. A few seconds later, he walked back in and handed me the brush.
"Thanks! I think that's all I need."

He had a sad expression on his face. "Yeah.."

I scoffed. I got up from the floor and wrapped my arms around his waist. He gasped and slowly hugged me back.

"I'm gonna miss you Eugene."

"I'll miss you too."

I heard a car honk from outside and we both walked to the door, he helped me with my bags and set them into the back on my dads van.

"Bye, Y/n. I'll call you.."

"Okay, Eugene. Goodbye!"

A month went by of staying at my dads. Eugene and I called everyday for at least 6 hours on end. I was having fun. There was one little problem, my dad kept accidentally using the wrong pronouns.

"Dad! I told you. Those aren't my pronouns, I know you don't mean to but please. It hurts me."

"I'm sooo sorry! I'm not used to it! I don't understand. I'm trying!"

I didn't really mean to raise my voice.

"Dad, I'm sorry. I kno-"

"If your mother is so good at it, go home. I don't care."

That hurt a little. "Fine! Maybe I will!" I stormed outside to calm down. But instead, I cried. I called Eugene.

"Hey Y/n! I'm glad you called, I'm with the guys and Judy, of course."

"Oh...maybe this was a bad time to call..."

"Huh? Y/n. Are you crying?"

"Uh..."

"What happened?"

I told him what had happened with my dad and he comforted me. I remembered that hug that we had before I left and it made me feel better.

"Thank you, Eugene. I'm gonna go talk to my dad now. I'll call you back later."

"Okay. Bye."

He hung up and I sighed. I was about to get up when the door opened. It was my dad.

"Kiddo, we need to talk...I'm sorry, I shouldn't have yelled at you."

"It's okay. I shouldn't have yelled either. I know that you're trying."

He hugged me.

Soon, the time that I visited my dad was over and I was on my way home. I was really excited.

I soon arrived back home and I texted Eugene that I was in town.

My dad dropped me off and I waved goodbye. I turned around and saw Eugene standing in my driveway. I dropped my bags and ran to him. He opened his arms and i ran into them. He hugged me.

"I missed you, Eugene."

"I missed you too.."

Something pink fell out of his pocket and I let go of him to pick it up.

"What's this?"

"Ah! Don't open that."

"Why?!"

"Uhh...umm.." he blushed.

I ripped it open greedily and read the paper in it.
It read:

Dear Y/n.

I don't know if I'll ever show you this. I want to, I plan on giving it to you on the day you come back but I'm not sure. Anyways, I love you. A lot. I know that you love me too but I love you like a lover. I like you. I can't keep burying my feelings anymore. And I-

The letter ended.

Eugene had a bright blush on his face.

"Eugene I-"

"ITS OKAY IF YOU DONT LIKE ME BACK."

"Eugene...I love you too." I smiled at him.

"Wait, really?"

"Mhm."
