Chap 1
I woke up to the sun shining through my window. I got out of my bed, blinking, as I looked around for my glasses. I found them and headed downstairs to make some food. As I ate, I looked out the windows, at all the houses and shops and offices, each suspended high off the ground, connected by bridges. Humanity has lived in the trees foro years now, every time you go down, you are in danger, they come from miles around, they are slow, but there's so many it doesn't matter. They cant get us in the trees though.
Suddenly, an alarm blazed through the woods! An attack! I grabbed my trusty baseball bat and ran outside, careful to avoid the loose planks nobody bothered to fix. I saw them, only one or two at first, but I knew there must be more nearby. Even if they cant get us in the trees, it's still bad to have them hanging around.
I ran down to the Lowering Station, where people were being lowered to fight. Everyone had different types of weapons, from crowbars, to guns. I rushed over and was lowered to the ground. I ran towards the first enemy and knoched its head off. It disintegrated and I ran on to the next.
Soon enough all the Zombies were dead, and everyone returned to their homes and work. I went over to my shop, a small, cozy bakery. As I went in, I took time to notice how the sun shines through the windows, lighting the place up.
"Hey Henry," I said, stepping behind the counter.
"Hiay boss" he replied. He was kneading some dough, ready to make a fresh batch of cinnamon bread.
"That looks good," I say, admiring the dough.
"Thanks boss"
I bopped him lightly on the head "don't call me that" i say jokingly, to be honest it's kind of endearing.
The first customer comes in, a lovely old lady with a flowers hat and a small cross-body bag.
"Hey, Ms.Clementine, what can i do for ya'" i hear Henry say.
"The usual please" she responds
I come out of the back, holding a warm piece of french bread
"Fresh out of the oven" i say with a smile, Ms.Clementine comes by every day to get bread for her and her family, and today i thought i would make it fresh for her.
"Thank you very much young man" she says, taking the bread "how much will that be?"
"On the house for you, Ms.Clementine" I responded. She smiles gratefully and leaves, the bell ringing behind her.
