Surprise..?

You rush into the restaurant, panting and out of breath. "Sorry! I didn't think I'd be caught up in the house for so long" your friends chuckle at your distressed state (as friends do). R/N gestures on the spot next to them "No worries, we all know it's chaos around you" they jest, placing down the menu in front of you.

The four of you chatter about how hard quarantine was for all of you, joke about how life has been weird lately and reminisce on how life was before the pandemic. As the waiter approaches the table you could hear a commotion stirring outside. A crowd had formed just outside the restaurant along with paparazzi. Other customers in the building seemed curious and soon started glancing to the street wondering what was going on. One of your friends quipped "I bet there's a hot celeb out there" as the other ordered their food.

"I doubt it, this place isn't that mainstream even though the food is hella good. Why would a celebrity be here anyways?" you replied, somewhat quickly. Your voice wavered at the end of your sentence. Nervousness was building up in your gut, god I hope it isn't a celebrity. Your friends stared at you for a while, confused on why you seemed so antsy at the fact there could be a celebrity outside. You were normally one to beam at a chance of seeing anyone remotely famous. But that was the thing, you did.

Months before quarantine and the pandemic, you had bumped into a certain celebrity whilst leaving an audition for quite a big franchise. Marvel, to be exact. The two of you hit it off and had been dating since. Both of you agreeing to keep it under the rug as to not gather an unnecessary amount of attention. You were an aspiring actor, emphasis on aspiring. So being with a famous celebrity could raise a few theories and backlash. Then, when lockdown came, he offered to stay with you through it. You happily agreed, deep down you knew you were positively head over heels for this man.

"Y/N? What are you daydreaming about?" R/N's voice snapped you out of your wistful daze.

You looked around frantically, still not out of your flashback. "Y/N?" Another one of your friends repeated, placing their hand on your shoulder. You turned to them, anxiety filling you to the brim. You found it easy to keep your relationship a secret whilst in quarantine, all you had to do was pretend nothing changed, post rarely and stay in a separate room when he was filming something. How the hell am I supposed to keep this a secret?  It isn't as easy as it was to keep yourself from exploding and blurting out every detail to your closest friends. It wasn't like you wanted to keep it a secret anyways, well, not for this long.

"It's uh- hm... Nothing." You finally choked something out, yet R/N and the rest didn't really believe you. You could tell straight away, distract them or something you big idiot  "Hey, did you guys... See that one video?" They stared at you in amusement, they all snickered and snorted to themself.

"Girl, quarantine has definitely done something to you and I don't know whether it's good or bad." The group erupts in smiles and laughter, after joining in you pull out your phone.

At this point, the crowd outside had reached the door of the restaurant and someone had entered causing a small ring of the bell on the doorway. Looking back, you should've heard this but you didn't. Distracted by the banter being thrown around the place. You should've seen the customers agape mouths but you didn't. Distracted by the fact you had missed your friends. You should've heard the gasp and the footsteps pacing the establishment but you didn't. Distracted by the fact you were safe from exposing yourself.

"No, seriously, this video is so funny!" You state placing it down onto the table and hung your head, unconsciously hiding your face. They watched it with intent, giggling every now and then. That's when your phone abruptly rang, the caller ID flashed saying 'Seb <3'. Clumsily snatching your phone back, you stiffly grinned at your friends. They shrugged and got back to talking, thinking it was better to leave it be. Just when you thought you were safe, someone approached your table. By this time, you had your head low in embarrassment and didn't notice your friends astonished faces.

"Y/N." you knew that voice all too well. Whipping your head up, you saw him. Sebastian (fucking) Stan. Ah shit. You were caught. R/N and the rest flipped back and forth from looking at you and him. Shooting up from your seat, you grabbed his arm, shuffling him back a bit.

"Seb. What are you doing here, you aren't wearing sunglasses or anything. What are you going to do if the paparazzi see us together!" You blabbered on, not noticing Sebastian's longing and glazed eyes. "You can't be out here you're gonna-"

"Y/N." His voice was soft and low. He grabbed your shoulders as your arms fell to your side, "I'm sorry. For earlier. I was just really, really scared that you might get hated on." The fight from just an hour ago skimmed through your mind.

--------------------------------------------------------------------

"You're kidding me, Seb! It's been what- 8 months? I can't keep lying to my friends like this. It was hard during the lockdown and it's gonna be harder now that I have to see them face to face."

He sighed "I know, I just- I can't trust them, the paparazzi are going to tear you apart. My fans will troll and harass you. I can't have that!"

"You mean, you can't trust me. You can't trust me..." Crossing your arms, you looked away.

"Y/N, you know that isn't what I..." his voice quietened.

"Yeah, I get it. I'll head out now then." You say bluntly. You didn't want to seem rude but you felt so hurt that after this long Sebastian still didn't want to tell anyone about you. You felt like he was out of your league and was ashamed to be with you.

You left hastily, slamming the door at his calls for you.

--------------------------------------------------------------------

"You uh, left this." He smiled tenderly, handing over your purse. There was a silence as you studied the purse and Sebastian. Then, as if you were crumpling into pieces, you pulled him into an embrace. His body relaxed into yours. "I don't think this is the way I would've wanted to tell your friends about us, but as long as your happy." He breathed out a chuckle.

You left his clutch and turned to your friends, their faces stunned. "So... I'm dating Sebastian, well. Have been dating Sebastian, for a while now." Seb slung his around your shoulder, gaining a dopey, proud grin and you forced out a teethy, delicate smile. "Surprise..?"
