Weekends are over and I am sitting here in calculus class just staring at the wall, waiting for the bell to ring so I can get out of here. Ugh, calculus is not really my thing. It gives me headaches but I’m pretty good at it. Sometimes. The class was quiet while Mr. Clark talks about how to solve the equations on the board. All of a sudden, the door opened and all eyes turned to see who has entered. Caleb walked in, stopped to look at the class, and then continued to walk towards Mr. Clark. He handed out a paper which seems like he’ll be in this class from now on. Wait, he’s transferring here??? NO WAY! Oh gosh, I’m so happy! There’s only one seat that is still empty and that’s in the back of me!
After making Mr. Clark sign his paper, he walked to the empty seat behind me and sat down. I turned around, smiling at him while watching him take out his geometry text book and notebook. He looked at me weirdly, and then he asked, “Can I help you?”
“Why are you here?” I asked casually. He looked at me like I was asking a dumb question. Well it was probably but I wanted to start a conversation because if I don’t then we’ll never talk. It’s now or never right?
“Unfortunately, I got transferred here, captain obvious.”
“Well then, grumpy, have fun being in this boring class.” I turned around so that I don’t have to hear any more of his insults.
The bell rang and I grabbed all my stuff. Before we were dismissed, Mr. Clark told us that we will be having our very first project. Great. Karen was waiting for me outside my class because we’re classmates next period. I told her about Caleb being my classmate in first period. She was all smiley but I don’t get it. She tells me she doesn’t like the fact I like him because he’s a jerk but she gets all excited when I tell her about him. Weird.
When we got to our next class, Mrs. Ingram was at her desk at the back of the class using her computer. Probably searching for new books that we’ll be reading again. But I love her choices of books. I became a fan of Nicholas Sparks after she made us read one of his books. My favorite one was “A Walk to Remember” and I loved the movie as well.
“Whoa, why is Caleb in this class? Is he lost or something?” Karen pointed at him. He was sitting in the front corner desk. Hmmm, very suspicious. First, he got transferred to my first period class. Now, he’s here too? What a coincidence…or is it?
“Maybe he got transferred to this class.” I said. I tried to hide my smile and I hope Karen doesn’t notice my face turning red.
“Or maybe he’s stalking you.” She said, smiling at me. I gave her the “are- you- crazy” look.
“You’re insane. He’s not stalking me. He just happened to transfer in this class.”
“But you want him to stalk you, hmmm?” She said wiggling her eye brows at me.
“You’re crazy. Remind me to bring you to mental hospital later.” I said and turn around to go to my seat. She followed behind me because we sit next to each other. I grabbed my lit text book and my notebook from my bag.
Mrs. Ingram finally stood up from her desk and walked to the front of the class. She whispered something to Caleb and then he stood up.
“Okay class, we have a new student in our class.” She looked at Caleb, giving him time to introduce himself.
“Hi, I’m Caleb.” Is all he said.
