Dabi honestly sucks at being a villain. Here me out here. Also, ⚠Spoilers⚠
Directly cost the League three of its most powerful and dangerous members, something that Shigaraki ends up taking the flak for later when he was put in charge of the attack on the camp
Became distracted and/or deliberately ignored a hidden hero student, immediately resulting in the rescue of Tokoyami Fumikage, the one Class 1-A student who has an uncontrollable quirk that could have been easily exploited by the villains
Then proceeded to free Tokoyami for no stated reason and at no benefit to the League instead of letting him potentially stay in the marble abd die.
Indirectly caused Kurogiri’s arrest and Magne’s death
Indirectly revealed the names, appearances, and quirks of all of the Vanguard Action Squad to the police, making them easier to track and harder for the group to gather/operate safely
Directly revealed the League’s primary hideout to the police and pro-heroes by walking around in broad daylight.
Indirectly forced All For One’s hand, resulting in the events of Kamino Ward and All For One’s eventual arrest. Yes, HE CAUSED KAMINO AND DIDN'T EVEN FIGHT THERE
Directly cost the League the contents of not one but two entire Noumu factories and the High-End Noumu
Increased Number 1 hero Endeavor’s public approval rating, starting him on the path to becoming a new “symbol” and making a bold move toward restoring an otherwise shaken society’s faith in heroes–the one thing the League has been working to destroy from day one
Was contact with a double agent who has every intention of tearing down the entire League from the inside out
And he wasn't there to meet Overhaul. If he was, Magne would probably be alive. I wonder if part of the reason Dabi was out of touch with the League at this time is because this is when he was making contact with Hawks? And what would it say about Dabi if the moment he drops off the League’s radar, he kills villains and hangs out with heroes instead?
Just sayin....
Not to mention he couldn't remember Snatch.
You’d think that Dabi would be delighted to be renowned as the murderer of a pro-hero, wouldn’t you? Isn’t it kind of strange that he flat out forgets who Snatch is, given that Dabi knew who Snatch was prior to chapter 160 and even says Snatch was fairly famous?
(The way I see it, chapter 191 was supposed to come across as “Look, Dabi is so callous about killing people he doesn’t even remember the names of his victims!” but because he’s literally only been shown killing one pro-hero, the whole thing comes across more like “Wow Dabi, how bad IS your memory, dude?
He’s a mysterious character who we’re introduced to as a Stain fanboy who claims he’ll “make the hero-killer’s will reality” and that the League needs to shake up hero society “for the sake of a brighter future,” but then proceeds to act not remotely like Stain at all, never coming out on Spinner’s side in any issues where Stain’s ideology is brought up and seeming to sometimes take delight in the possibility of becoming infamous while other times ignoring it entirely, not even taking note of the fact that he’s become a hero-killer himself?
And WHY did he get another Nomu?
Because really, after his failure with the first personal Noumu, don’t you think Shigaraki should have been smarter than to give Dabi a second? Someone has an obvious favorite. The impression I got from the Endeavor arc was that the high-end Noumu was rare, experimental, and probably very complicated to make. It seems to have been the “most powerful Noumu yet,” right? So when Dabi found out that Hawks reneged on their deal and didn’t just bring “a random strong hero” but instead brought the Number 1 hero in all of Japan… Why did he still choose to release the high-end early?
I mean, he literally released the high-end on the only two people in all of Japan likely to actually defeat it without mass civilian casualties. This is possibly the worst use of company property ever recorded, and definitely a massive waste of League resources. Dabi was supposed to test it, not to ruin it!
Ok. Sorry for the rant but what I think it all adds up to is Dabi didn't really want to be a villain. He wanted to be a hero. And we've been seeing this the entire time.
