There are two things I've learned about this world: one, you can't fix people who don't want to be fixed; two, people are incapable of change. In learning this, I have been burned too many times. the people closest to me have hurt me in ways that I never thought they could and have shown me time and time again that apologies mean nothing if you aren't willing to do the work.
The first person that taught me this bitter truth was my mother. She changed after my dad died. She became bitter, cold, distant. When I looked at her, I no longer saw the woman who raised me. Instead, I saw a ghost. An empty shell of the woman she once was. She showed me that people can push you away and turn their backs on you at the drop of a hat. Even when you think they won't, they do. I've stopped trying to fix people. I've learned to guard my heart. If I don't let anyone in, no one can hurt me.
I believe that people are born the way that they are. You can try to hide behind a facade all you want, but eventually, you show your true colors. Some people are just born worse than others. Because of this, I made the choice to help put these types of people behind bars where they can't hurt anyone else. I joined the FBI to stop people from hurting other people. For the past five years, I have worked for the FBI's Sex Crimes Unit. In doing so, I've helped put away dozens of terrible people and stopped them from being able to hurt anyone else. Although I love my unit, I decided that I needed a change of pace. Three months ago, I put in the request to be transferred to the FBI's Behavioral Analysis Unit. Surprisingly, they accepted my transfer and requested that I start immediately. And that's where I am today. Today I start my new journey at the BAU. This will be good for me, I think.
