Izuku walked out of the hospital with his hands in his All Might hoodie, bracing himself for the cold air. Katsuki, who had to get surgery on his lungs to get rid of the sludge he might've inhaled and was kept overnight just in case he catches a disease, took one look at Izuku and told him to go home. Saying he didn't want to hear Izuku bawl like a baby bitch because he couldn't get there in time or it's his fault that the sludge villain slipped away.
The vigilante huffed out a frozen breath, kicking a few rocks in his way. His day had gone from being one of his best to having a shitty day. Bumping into All Might had to have been one of his most terrifying encounters by far. Not only that, Izuku had to bump into him twice and he shit talked right to his face.
Principal Nedzu, who has never spoken to Izuku a day in life, suddenly contacted the vigilante. Oh, and would you look at that? He knows Izuku is Phantom, and he wants to have a private meeting with him tomorrow.
Just what did he do to be born under such an unlucky star?
The sun dipped below the clouds, painting the sky a vibrant orange and pink colours with a dash of light purple and blue. The warm and sunny temperature was long gone and was replaced with the cold whistling wind that seemed to stick to you even if you try to get warm. Everybody walking home slightly picked up the pace so they could hurry and go where it was warmer.
Sometimes you just gotta roll with the punches.
Izuku craned his neck up to see the top of the H-shaped building. He remembered he spent days dreaming about coming to this place and becoming a hero. How cool it would feel to walk past these gates every day, how awesome it would be to tell someone that you go to UA, how fun it would be to fight in the sports festival and against or with other heroes' schools.
"So... you're the one Nedzu wanted to meet on a Saturday morning."
God, Izuku would know that voice anywhere. It took everything in the short male to not turn heel and run. Instead, he turned to face the underground hero, Eraserhead. "Y-yes... though I'm not exactly sure what it's about though. The email was very vague." Izuku awkwardly laughed, rubbing the back of his head.
Eraserhead grunted,
but his face still stayed completely neutral. "Come on, Nedzu is waiting."
"Yes!"
Walking through UA is an experience. On the outside it looks incredibly rich but on the inside... Izuku is 99% sure if he inhaled hard enough he could smell the amount of money that had been invested into this school. Everything was so shiny that Izuku felt he might've been going blind for a second.
The building also had plenty of twists and turns, long staircases opening up multiple doors just to get to another section of the building. The closer they got to Nedzu's office, the more complicated the floor plans were.
Finally-oh god, finally- they stopped at a brown hardwood door with a brown nameplate next to it with the words 'Principal Nedzu Office. ' engraved into it. Holy smokes, are the letters made of gold? Like 24k gold?
Eraserhead knocked on the door with three raps. A muffled "come in" came behind the door. "I've brung the boy you were talking about." Eraserhead swung the door open wide and made enough room for Izuku to shuffle into the room.
"Thank you, Aizawa! You may leave now." The chimera sipped its tea.
Izuku wanted to beg the man to not leave him alone with one of the smartest creatures to ever grace this earth, but he just bit his tongue and focused on looking around the room.
The room looked exactly like a normal principal office except if it was 2x as big. Nedzu's desk took up a good chunk of the room, honestly it's a surprise Nedzu could still see over his desk. Maybe he has a booster seat?
There were giant windows behind Nedzu, probably too menacingly looking at the school grounds from. Lined up against the walls were a bunch of bookshelves filled with folders, paperworks and books.
"Midoriya, I'm glad to see that you made it. Let's drink some tea while we talk." Nedzu gestured his palm (?) towards the green couch with a brown hardwood coffee table, a floral looking teapot and teacup sat upon the table.
Izuku walked over and sat down on the couch. "How did you know I was Phantom?" Izuku was never the one for just chatting around and beating around the bush. Plus, if Nedzu takes control of the conversation, it won't end pretty.
Nedzu took a sip of his tea. "You're just like your mother. I knew it as soon as I held you as a baby."
Izuku, who had finally drunk some of the tea in front of him, not really caring if the rat poisoned it, took a spit-take. "Wait- what?"
"I've known your mother, Inko Midoriya, for a long time now, Midoriya." Nedzu took another sip of his tea, something glinting in those black beady eyes of his.
What? Izuku doesn't remember his mom ever talking about president Nedzu or even mentioning that she knows him. "How do you know my mother?"
Nedzu set his teacup down on the saucer with a small clink. "Yes. I guess that is the million dollar question. I will tell you, but first I want to make a deal with you."
"A deal?"
"A deal!" The smile on Nedzu's face sent shivers down Izuku's spine, making the hairs on his neck, and he almost reached for the one knife he kept with him at all times.
The vigilante narrowed his eyes at the chimera. "Okay..." he drawled. "What is it?"
"I want you to join UA-"
"I can't be a hero." Izuku cut Nedzu right off.
"-As a Teacher Assistant with Eraserhead."
The rebuttal on Izuku's tongue fizzled out. The vigilante stared at Nedzu as if he grew two heads. Work as a Teacher Assistant with Eraserhead? Like... the Eraserhead that he practically fights daily? Work alongside him to teach some snotty nosed brat?
Izuku could hear the window sound effect as his brain shut down and start back up again.
"You got a couple of college degrees under your belt. Quirk Sociology, History and Politics, Psychology, and you were in the class's top in all of them."
Well, you learn a thing or two when a two hundred year monstrosity has been teaching you for ten years of your life.
"I still can't become a teacher for UA. I'm a vigilante, Nedzu. I've killed people, there's someone out there looking for me and if they know I'm here, they'll kill everyone." Izuku leaned forward in his seat. He can't become a hero, he's done too many bad things. Hell, just because of who he's related to, he can't ever become a hero.
Nedzu took a sip of his tea. "If it makes this easier for you, it's your mother asking me to hide you and offer you a job at UA, and I can't decline her offer since I owe her a favor."
Izuku hung his head in his hands. If his mother had already decided something, it's too late to change her mind. This has to be one of the worst days of his life.
"I don't have a choice... do I?"
"Nope!"
Gold eyes watched from afar as a boy wearing a white button up long sleeve shirt with a red tie and black slacks. The boy had curly green hair with tanned skin, from as far as they can see, the boy had a jagged scar on his cheekbone.
The boy looked around for a little before stepping into a nearby alleyway. A greenish-blackish inky portal appeared, and the boy stepped into it.
"So you're Phantom... or should I call you Izuku?"
_____
ooo this chapter is like SUPER DUPER bad, I just wanted to get it out. Also Nedzu is a shit, he gets...better. Also there's like foreshadowing in this chapter. I promise next chapter there will be more interaction with Izuku & Mina & Kirishima & Bakugou.
