"My child, when will we have our grandchild?" That was mom's question when I came home from work that night.

Both my parents are already in their late sixties and both are eager to see little kids prancing around the house.

Let's add the fact that my younger cousins have their own families.

Being the eldest grandchild and with the age of past thirty, this has been the most consistent question that I have ever received from our relatives and from people I knew.

This has been so overbearing. I almost wanted to record all my answers so I won't have to answer them one-by-one.

If I don't answer them, they will assume me as a snob and would talk behind my back saying I will become an old maid.

However, if I answer their inquiries, follow up questions are naturally expected.

"Wait for it, mom. I have it ordered thru online shopping. I will ask the seller when will it be shipped here immediately." I joked and received a slap on the butt from her before I went to my room to change my clothes.

"You're such a naughty kid!" Mom yelled from our living area.

I laughed while changing into my comfy indoor clothes.

My dad who was inside their room came out and greeted me with a kiss on my left cheek.

"You're such a playful kid. Keep doing that and your mom's blood pressure will shoot up." Dad said while we went downstairs to the kitchen.

"I was just kidding, Dad." I said with a smirk.

We found mom setting our plates and dishes on the table as I glanced at the clock.

I realized that it's almost nine o' clock in the evening.

Luckily, today is Friday.

I smiled at the thought of having to sleep straight tonight.

I did not have second thoughts to help mom setting the plates on our table.

I am their only child and they are old already.

Even if I'm this playful and childish at times, I still am concerned about them.

Like recently, mom carried a large and heavy cooking pan while the rest of the people in our compound did not dare to help her.

Considering they are bigger both in body built and have more strength than her.

No one even asked or initiated to carry it for her.

I shook my head when I remembered that day.

Both dad and I scolded her when we caught her carrying the heavy cooking pan.

Her reason for doing it was that nobody will do it if she won't move.

Like, hello? Is she the only person in our compound?

"Why are you still standing there?" Mom asked me and gestured for me to sit down.
"The food is served, Señorita Claudine."

"Sorry. My bad." I said and smirked before I sat down.

We uttered a silent prayer before enjoying our dinner.

Occasional banters are never out of the picture during our dinner time ever since my childhood days.

I, indeed, inherited my father's playful and childish side.

"I happened to come across this guy in the supermarket. He was searching for a specific brand of shampoo so he asked tge saleslady. According to her, there was no stock. I asked if there was Claudine's brand and she answered none also. So I told her to have their store closed. The guy earlier who was beside me laughed." Dad bragged about his encounter earlier while chewing on our dish for tonight.

"Like father, like daughter, indeed! You both are conceited!" Mom commented and glared at us.

I chewed my rice well and swallowed before answering her.

"Why me? It was dad's! " I shot back at her.
"Oh, dad! Why are you so humorous? Now, I get to be involved!" I said sarcastically.

Dad only laughed at us as we finished our dinner.

Once we were done, I took a warm shower to prepare for bed.

As soon as my back hits the bed, I automatically yawned.

I glanced at the calendar at the back of my door and found out that it was the 10th of July.

A few more days and my birthday is coming.

One more year will be added to my age.

I sighed and thought about it.

I just wished their ill-wishes of me becoming an old maid won't come true!
