She stood there frozen in fear not sure what to do. Should she go help him or run for her own life?
Chapter 1
Beth woke up earlier than she usually would on a weekend and sat straight up. She thought she was supposed to be getting up for school, but soon relaxed after figuring out that she forgot to turn off her alarm the night before. She turned the alarm off and snuggled back into her covers. "I can sleep some more before I have to get up."
She awoke again and looked at the clock. "11:05!!" Beth was astounded! She leaped out of bed and rushed to take her shower. She was going to be late if she didn't hurry up! She descended the stairs two at a time.
"Will my parents be mad at me? Will they say I can't go? Will I be in trouble?" All these questions were going through her mind when she hit the last step of the stairs.
Chapter 2
Nobody was there. Not one person was there in the kitchen. Beth went to look in the living room. The tv was on, but not a single soul was there. "Why would they leave the tv on and not be here watching it?" Beth's parents were strict on electricity. They would turn out a light even if they were coming back to the room in a second. Beth knew something wasn't right. "They would never leave the tv on." Beth then moved on to the hallway and looked in the bathroom. Nobody there. She then moved upstairs and looked in her parent's room. The bed was freshly made and the curtains were pulled back from the window so the sun's rays were dancing across the floor. She looked everywhere for her parents, but they were nowhere to be found.
She ran down the stairs and to the front door. The front door was locked. "Did they leave without me?" She ran outside and saw nobody in the front lawn. Backyard was empty besides the stray dog that got in the yard sometimes. Beth ran to the frontyard again and ran to the garage door. She threw the door open and let out a squeak. The car was still there! "Did they leave me and take a cab?"
Beth ran inside again and tried the home phone. There was not a single sound coming out of it. She tried again. Same thing, not a sound. "What is going on?" Beth tried her cell phone. It worked! She tried calling her mother's cell phone. "Ring, ring, ring, ring, ring......" It kept ringing and finally went to voice mail. "Mom, where are you? I've looked all over for you and I haven't found you or Dad. I will try his cell phone. Call me when you get this message. I'm worried."
She hung up the phone and tried calling her father's cell phone. "Ring, ring, ring, ring, ring....." Voice-mail; "Dad, I tried calling Mom's phone and she didn't answer so I thought I would call you and see if you would answer your phone. Apparently you aren't answering. Anyway, call me when you get this message because I'm worried about you guys. You aren't home and I don't know where you are."
A million thoughts started running through Beth's mind. "Where are they? Did they go somewhere? Why didn't they wake me up if they did go somewhere? What should I do? What am I going to do? What is going on?"
Beth was starting to freak out. She started to wonder if her parents went without her to the meeting they planned about her biological father. She was going to meet him. Beth decided to go to the meeting to see if her parents had gone without her.
Chapter 3
"Can you please send a taxi to 2439 Hollyshell Rd? I'm going to Burstonville."
"Yes, your taxi will be there in about 20 minutes."
"Ok, thank you very much. Bye."
Beth went upstairs to pack her bag full of clothes because she knew she would be away for a little bit so she could meet her father and get to know him. She packed enough clothes for two weeks and snatched her backpack up from beside her bed and jogged down the stairs. She glanced out of the window, to make sure the taxi wasn't there yet, as she moved her way to the kitchen. Beth opened the pantry door and grabbed some food to put into her backpack. She laid everything on the counter so she could see what she was going to pack. She flipped through all the cabinets looking for more food for the trip. She threw a bag of chips and some Nutty Bars on the counter along with the other food from the pantry. She then went into the garage and grabbed some water bottles and a few sodas.
