Think about them
These children you're forcing into your dreams
Maybe they want different futures
It's not their fault you couldn't
It's not their fault you can't
Let them choose their own paths
All humans are humans
But not all humans are engineers
Not all humans are doctors
Not all humans are athletes
But all humans have dreams
All envision a future
For themselves, not for others
And certainly not for you
You had a choice
You had a dream
But you didn't act on it
You didn't walk toward it
Just because your legs are weak
That doesn't mean you stand on these children
At first they'll be happy to help you
Seeing the world through your powerless eyes
But then they'll grow weary
And their backs will crack
And their legs will walk more slowly
Until they could walk no more
Then they'll wonder
Why these legs couldn't have taken them somewhere else
Where they could've walked forever
Even skipped and ran and jumped
But instead they spent their lives
Carrying the fallen dreams of those before them
Like a sky on their shoulders
And they'll wonder if
They could reach their destinations
On top of the future's back
And the cycle will never end
For all they did was live for others
Never a life for their own
This child wanted to be a cook
But you forced him into basketball
This child wanted to be a ballerina
But you forced her into medicine
What have they done to deserve this?
They've done nothing
When they could have said no
When they could have ignored the words
When they could have tried harder
Think about them
