"You all didn't even bother checking if that body you found was me?!" I ridiculed in disgust. I looked around making sure nobody was listening in on our conversation. Espeically knowing that Ridgewood and Smalls thought I was a double-crosser of some kind.
"Cece, I had my hands tied. I wasn't authorized to look into your death." Zayn muttered to me. He felt bad that he couldn't do more. I understood there wasn't much he could do with the position they put him in.
This would make me ponder about why I wasn't taken in for questioning if Ridgewood and Smalls thought I had done something. Certainly, they still thought I was a risk of some kind. There were still so many questions that needed answering. Not only for my disappearance but what was Zayn and them working on now. What was Helix?
I was about to say something else until out of the corner of my eye I saw someone walking over to us. Turning my head my eyes widen a bit in shock. Ridgewood was talking over this way. I knew I must have been done for.
"Miss. Hart, can I see you in my office, now!"Ridgewood said sternly before looking at Zayn. "Please get back to your work." She had glared before she started to walk down the hallway. I followed close behind, not before giving a sympathetic look at Zayn. He shrugged his shoulders and walked down the other way.
We walked for a few agonizing minutes before we finally made it to Ridgewood's office. As I stepped inside I noticed right away Juliet plastered on her walls. Including another person next to Juliet. My guess was it was another of Ridgewood's children. I still couldn't believe someone like Ridgewood would procreate with someone else.
"Have a seat" Ridgewood's voice rang out, taking me out of my thoughts. She was motioning me to sit down right across from her. I nodded my head as I did what I was told.
"Can I just say..." I tried explaining to her. I needed to get my voice out there. I was sick and tired of people not telling me anything and I was sick and tired of being in the dark about everything. Still, as those words left my mouth. Ridgewood put her hand up, telling me to stop talking. I knew I should do as she says because who knew what she would do.
"How have things been for you, since you've been back?" Ridgewood said as she brought her hand down on her desk, clasping both hands together, her lips turning into a straight line.
"Uh..well...as good as you expect." Ridgewood nodded her head murmured under her breath. "Can I ask you something?"
"What is it?" Ridgewood said as she opened her notebook, writing something down on the page.
"Zayn told me what happened right after I...Well...you know." I didn't want to say it out loud because even I thought it was too absurd to even say out loud."My question is, why didn't you take me into custody when I woke up in that hospital room?"
Ridgewood looked at me and then back at her notebook. Taking a few minutes to figure out what to tell me. She sighed before placing her glasses on. "Things can change in three years, Miss. Hart."
