The car ride was mainly silent as my eyes fixated sleepily on the many cars on the streets around us. Ryan sat in the back discussing school and different things with my mum that I didn't pay much attention to."Here we are," my mom half smiles, pulling into the familiar dorm parking lot as i shake out of my tired daze. "Where's your block?" my mom asks from the drivers seat.
"Block B," I read, "So just there ," I say pointing to the large pillar with a big 'B' painted in white.
My mom, Ryan and I begin filing out of the car with all the boxes and bags filling our arms. I always have liked to have more than enough things to make sure I get bored. I had never been much of a party person and would much rather stay in with a book or painting.
We finally make it to room 27 and I grab the keys that I had been given earlier by one of the staff and opened the door. We enter a quite large dorm room with two beds, one on either side. A blonde curly hair girl lays across the bed messily with different things surrounding her. We all put the boxes and bags down before she jumps a little and jumps from her bed.
"Hey," she smiles, a big friendly smile, "I'm Cassie." A thick accent fills her voice and she smiles again. The girl before me was really pretty and petite, I was jealous of her slim frame dressed in a mini skirt and white top paired with a leather jacket and perfectly done makeup.
"Hi," I smile shyly, " I'm Veronica, but I prefer Ronnie." I run my hand up and down my arm, a nervous habit that i have never seemed to stop.
I fidget uncomfortably in my spot."First year?" Cassie asks, spotting my anxiousness.
"No actually, it's my second but I took a, um," I stutter, "A gap year," I finish.
"Sounds fun," Cassie giggles, "Anyway.. who is this gorgeous man," she says pointing at Ryan, "And I'm guessing this is your sister," she say flatteringly to my mom, who looks unimpressed.
"No this is my boyfriend and my mom," I correct the bubbly blonde.
"Nice to meet you," Ryan smiles uncomfortably at Cassie, "I like your accent," Ryan compliments.
"Thank you," Cassie beams, "I was born in Normandy in France and grew up Somerset in England, and me and my brother moved to the States when we could."
"That sounds so cool," I say, "I would love to leave the States to travel someday."
"You should there's a lot to see," she smiles, "I was so excited to move here, my brother wasn't so optimistic after he had to leave his girlfriend behind but he grew to love it here."
"I hope to," I sigh, "That must be hard."
I thought about all the places I would love to visit, Paris to see the Eiffel Tower, Norway to see the Northern Lights, London to see Big Ben, I wanted to see everywhere.
"That's enough small talk," my mom interrupts, "We should get Veronica settled in," she says to Cassie.
"Right," Cassie smiles, "I'll let you unpack and go annoy my brother and his friends and leave you to it." She grabs a few things before heading to the door, "I'll see you later Ronnie, and it was nice meeting you mum and boyfriend." She smiles at us before disappearing behind the door.
We spend the rest of the day unpacking while Cassie left for most of the day to let me get settled, she seemed like a really nice girl and I'm sure I'd get along with her well, even if I'd only spent a few moments with her.
