1:38 PM

Heat. Light. The burning sand on my back. A shadow, moving back and forth. There was a sharp pain in my ribs. I opened my eyes.

"Hello? Hello? Holy shit. Oh god. Oh no. Squeeze my hand if you can hear me. Hello?" There was a panicked voice

A tall figure with wet wavy hair was looking down at me. I quickly sat up.

"Huh?!"

"Oh my god. Are you okay?"

Who was this?

"Um, yeah, no, I'm fine. Wheres TJ and Lily? Are they okay?"

"Oh. Your friends? Well the asian girl went to call the ambulance, and the mixed one helped me drag you out the water. She's with your parents right now. My name is Jad by the way."

"Shit. Did I wipe out?"

"Yeah. You nearly drowned. The wave completely washed you out. And from that bruise on your stomach, I think your board hit you too."

"Fuck. I knew I shouldn't have gone. I knew it. I don't know why I went. I haven't surfed since-"

He softly touched my shoulder. Chills spread throughout my body.

"I think what's most important right now is that you're here live."

"Oh, yeah no you're right. Wait um, sorry to ask this but did you have to-"

He cut me off.

"Yeah, I did have to do the whole mouth-to-mouth thing. Don't worry though, its no big deal."

"Oh yeah, no big deal." I let out a slight laugh.

He stood up and put out his hand.

"C'mon, we gotta get you back to your house."

I tried to get up, but I couldn't. The aching in my stomach was overwhelming. I reached out and grabbed his arm, his arm grabbing mine, trying to pull myself up.

Slipping on the soft grains of sand, he fell on top of me.

We were face-to-face, only inches away from each other. I felt the beat of his heart and his soft breaths, in and out. Time had slowed down. The universe had come to a pause, only focusing on Jad and I, me and Jad. I noticed his eyelashes, and how they batted ever so gracefully every time he blinked. I noticed his lips, soft as rose petals on a warm summer day. I noticed his eyes, though a dark brown, deep as the ocean. They drag you in, luring you further and farther, until finally leaving you breathless.

"Oh shit, sorry. We should probably get going." Jad said, trying to stay focused.

He picked me up from my arms and carried my legs.

While being carried through the sand, we locked eyes for a millisecond. I saw the way that his hair sat perfectly in waves. With the sun beaming on his face, he looked at me, me looking back. His eyes transformed from a darkened brown, to a honey-like caramel. He looked away, starting for the parking lot.

"Where's my car?" I said with slight fear.

"I think your friend, TJ took your car home to your parents."

"Oh, thank god."

2:16 PM

The speakers of his car were blasting "One Dance", by Drake. With me in the passenger seat and him driving, I looked over to my left. His right was arm extended out, and his hand on the steering wheel. I stared at him for a good three seconds before looking away.
