Life As We Know It

My First Few Years

It's a calm winter day, my mom and dad are fighting again. It seams as their fighting gets more and more regular.

"I swear, your a useless excuse for a wife!" his father screamed in a deep darken voice.

"You need to not talk like that when Ryan's in this house."

Ryan is my younger brother. Our parents are trying to make it seem as if they were the two happiest people. But me on the other hand, since I'm older they say I can understand. I don't, I never have. My aunt Kathey says that they're going to end up divorced anyways. I can see why.

As the next few weeks pasted, there was a fight almost every night. My mom sent Ryan and I over to our aunts so they could go on a vacation. My aunt knew that I know what was happening. I wish I didn't.

"How are you doing honey?" she asked in a soft, kind voice. I didn't even know how to respond, I didn't know how I felt. I pulled the word from my mouth, "Good I guess. I'm scared for Ryan." I was, I don't know how he's going to react to this. Especially if one of them get custody of us or one or the other. Kathey said I was the only man that Ryan had to look up to. "He will be fine aslong as your here for him. He looks up to you. Not you father, all he does is boss him around." I knew this was true. He would boss us around like we were his personal slaves, if we refused to he would threaten us.

"I know, I hate him. He does it to mom sometimes when they fight." I did really hate him. He was always mean to us. If I tried to fight back, it wouldn't end in my favor.

A couple weeks pasted and our parents finally came home. What we had imagined came true. They were finally divorced. They haven't discussed custody of us yet. My father was moving out. The way he acted he wantwd nothing to do with me or Ryan. This was fine with me, I didn't want nothing to do with him either. Ryan was sad that he lost his father, but on the other hand happy because mom was more happy.
