"Children please settle down. I'd like to make this announcement so that you can get back to eating," everyone suddenly starts quieting down, "Yes and it's evident that you'd like that as well." The principal, Mr. Mayorga, booms.

I'm sitting at a table in my school's auditorium/cafeteria with my group of highly unconventional friends. We are definitely not listening to a word the principal is saying but hey who does? This time it's not just because we have no care in the world about what comes out of his mouth, it's because we're worried about our friend. Well my best friend since middle school, Carter. His grandma just died yesterday and we're waiting to see whether or not he'll show up at school. I'm the most worried and I think it shows.

"It's okay, baby. He's probably just taking some time to cope." Alex, my boyfriend and best friends twin brother, assures me.

Alex is my first boyfriend ever, which is saying a lot considering it's our senior year. I mean I have had flings here and there and "talked" to guys, but nothing this serious. It's nice. He's literally the perfect boyfriend. He is so cute with his long black skater boy hair, his adorable slanted eyes that I could stare into forever and his smile. HIS SMILE. Anyway him and Alandra moved here last year and her and I instantly clicked. We've been best friends since. At first she was weirded out about her brother and me, but she soon warmed up to the idea.

"Thank you." I breathe relaxing from his soothing words.

"Of course." He says and kisses me on the cheek.

"Can you guys get a room?" Alandra whisper yells.

As me and Alex laugh, suddenly Carter comes and sits down on an empty seat at our table. Carter has always been one of the most good looking guys at our school. With his messy brown hair, gorgeous green eyes, and award winning crest commercial smile, he can basically, and has, gotten any girl he's ever wanted. Now he wasn't always this hot, I was friends with him through his awkward stage. When he had braces, his parents didn't want to pay for contacts, and he was literally shorter than every girl in our grade. Now ironically he's 6'0.

"Hey." I say breaking the silence that suddenly plagued our table.

"Hey." Carter says, faking a smile.

"How are you?" Alandra asks worriedly.

"I've been better." He states bluntly.

Then suddenly and dramatically Alandra throws her arms around him in an aggressive hug. He awkwardly sits in it trying not to be rude but obviously not wanting to be in it. Then everyone around our table murmurs "sorry" and pats on the backs and "it gets better". But I know as his best friend what I need to do. I go over to him and I hug him the most meaningful way I know how. And he hugs back tighter, and we hug because this says everything I need to and more. When I pull away I see tears have welled in his eyes. But as I'm about to pull him i for another hug a teacher stops me.

"Ms. Peters sit back down, now." Mr. Dean demands.

Annoyed, I go back to my seat and lean back on Alex. He welcomes me by wrapping his arm around my waist and mocking Mr. Deans nasally voice in my ear. I laugh and lean farther back onto him. He always knows exactly how to make me feel better. I look up and see Alandra fake gagging and for some odd reason, Carter frowning. Then in-spite of his sister Alex kisses me and we all laugh. All except Carter, who suddenly and randomly pushes out of his seat and bursts out of the auditorium, causing a scene.

"I should check on him, I'll be back." I tell a teacher that I'm going to the bathroom then I go to see if my best friend is okay.
