Like a fall leaf from a tall tree

Landing on the grass

Like the white sand turns the clock in

Any hour glass

You're the reason I believe in

Something I don't know

............
We sat on the edge of the lake on the last summer afternoon before high school. The lake was calm and we sat there in silence. It was a perfect silence, one I loved.
"Are you scared?" Nash asked suddenly breaking the perfect silence. For a second I was mad at him for the crime of stealing the moment from me but I got over it as his question sunk in.
"Actually no. You?" the only reason I wasn't scared was because we had one class together so that meant he couldn't get rid of me yet. Our innocent friendship was one thing I couldn't bare to lose.
"I'm... kind of scared," he looked embarrassed by this.
"Why are you embarrassed? You don't have to be. Its normal to be scared."
"So you aren't normal" he teased.
"Never have been" I said like it was a joke, but it wasn't. I never have felt normal around him or anyone of my peers.
"What are you thinking?" this was another problem. I always knew his thoughts but he never knew mine.
"Guess" I said trying to make it obvious that I don't like not feeling normal.
"You are frustrated because you actually are scared you just won't admit it." He said confidently.
"And your proud of yourself because you think you know me when I know you so much better." I sighed and looked away.
"You're right." he said sighing. "I'm a terrible friend, always have been always will be."
"No, the reason why I'm not scared for school tomorrow is because you're in one of my classes so I won't be alone." Partially true, but he didn't know it.
"I'll never leave my best friend alone. Ever."
