"Lou! Guess what I got you?"
"A hug?" Louis tilted his head questioningly, showing off his missing front teeth with a smile.
"Exactly correct!" Harry's heart melted as he held his arms open for Louis to run into.
"But you know what else?" He asked the child, laughing when Louis shook his head no with a puzzled expression.
"A birthday surprise!" He plopped Louis down at the breakfast table, revealing the stack of pancakes he made.
"Wow!" Louis' face emulated pure joy, reaching out for the pancakes immediately.
"That's not all..." Harry began to add a pile of whipped cream he never would have allowed Louis to have if not for the special occasion.
Louis dug into his birthday breakfast immediately, whipped cream all over his face in seconds.
"Mmphh!" He tried to talk with his mouth full.
"Chew a bit more, LouBear." Harry chuckled.
"Love you!" Louis smiled when he was more coherent.
"Love you too, birthday boy." He wore an amused smiled.
"Harry?" Louis asked through a happy mouthful.
"Yes, love?" He wiped Louis face a bit with a napkin.
"What do people do on birthdays?" He asked curiously.
The faint voices of Frank and Lindsay upstairs grew louder and both Harry and Louis looked up.
Louis' smile began to fade a bit and that was not okay with Harry.
Harry shook his head in annoyance that they would fight loud enough for Louis to hear. Especially on his birthday.
"Hey, Loubear, I'm about to teach you something super important, so listen up." Harry tapped his ear, causing Louis to look up at him obediently, hanging onto every word.
"On birthdays we have pancakes. And we give fun gifts. But most importantly, we tell each other how much we love each other." Harry smiled fondly.
"I love you as much as how much whipped cream is on my pancake!" Louis pointed to his plate.
"Wow. You're already really good at birthdays."

Harry's POV:
I shot up in bed, my breathing shallow from my abrupt awakening. There was a piercingly high pitched alarm wailing through the flat.
