The boys of class 2-3 got dressed for their next period, gym. Aren Kuboyasu was the most recent transfer student at PK Academy. He made the decision to start attending school to "give the straight and narrow a chance", as he put it, and to put his past life as a delinquent behind him.
He had established some friendships in just his first few days here. There was this pink-haired boy named Saiki, which he wasn't too sure he could actually talk. Some idiot called Nendou, with one of the ugliest haircuts he had ever seen (which was coming from a guy who used to rock a 5-foot-long blond mullet). Teruhashi, a girl who looked straight out of a Playboy magazine but had the personality of an angel, whose name he wanted to get tattoed even though she had just only shown him around the school, and shy iceberg blue haired boy, Kaidou, who Kuboyasu actually didn't observe in the classroom at the moment. He knew he was here today, Aren had seen him arriving while he was changing his shoes, but it seemed like every gym class he suddenly disappeared. Kuboyasu didn't think much of it. Maybe he wants to get changed in a stall instead! Honestly, I would prefer that too, so I didn't have to hide in the corner to make sure no one points out my scars...
The boys began to file out of the room, chatter filling the hallway as the boys departed for the field. Aren silently followed, a few steps behind the group, since he didn't have anyone to talk to. Saiki never seemed to want to talk, Nendou gave Aren a headache, and Kaidou was nowhere to be seen.
Aren actually really liked Kaidou. When he initially introduced himself to the small boy, he seemed strange. He started ranting about what Kuboyasu thought was some gang, Dark Reunion. While he tried not to get too invested, trying to start a new life and all, he admired Kaidou for being so invested in defeating them. Admittedly, the puny guy probably couldn't fight a seagull that stole his lunch, but that somehow drew Aren closer to him. He wanted to protect him.
Aren was suddenly pulled out of his head as he felt a presence suddenly appear next to him. It was a skill he had developed living the life he used to, which had helped him avoid getting jumped a handful of times. Aren turned his head and saw-
"Kaidou!"
The chuunibyou was suddenly behind him. "Didn't see you there bro!"
"Y-yeah. Hi!"
While Kuboyasu was curious about where he was and where he suddenly appeared from, it didn't matter; he was just happy to have someone to get through gym class with. And anyway, they weren't even that close, no point prodding in his business. The boys started chatting about their previous lesson, small talk to keep them occupied on their short walk to the field.
The sun blinded them as the pair stepped out onto the grass. Kaidou raised his arm to shield his face. As Aren did the same, he couldn't help glancing at his companion. He sported these blue bandages always wrapped around his wrist. Just another mystery that Kuboyasu was eager to solve.
Their teacher yelled at them to hurry to the rest of the group. Today was baseball, which was one of Kuboyasu's favorite sports. He was pretty keen with a bat, definitely for the wrong reasons, but hitting a ball was just as satisfying as what he used to do with one previously.
Kaidou stepped up to the pitcher's mound, adjusting his feet and getting ready to throw the ball. He tossed the ball softly between his hands before launching the ball. It flew a meter or two, then bounced to a stop. He awkwardly shuffled to grab it and went to try again. Kaidou tossed the ball again, and again the ball failed to reach the batter.
"What a wimp!"
"He can't even make it a few meters."
"He throws like a girl."
Mutters from the class hovered around the field. Kaidou looked defeated as the teacher apprehensively suggested he get off the mound and let another classmate have a turn.
Kaidou slunked to the back of the line, a frown spread across his face. Aren could tell he was upset. I mean, who wouldn't be? But he could tell there was something more to his sadness. Being called a girl was something Kuboyasu was used to, it was a common insult thrown around by the older gang members. But Kaidou seemed unusually upset. Aren noticed he was a bit of a crybaby but this seemed... different. Whatever, I'm sure it's fine. Aren thought. I can cheer him up after class.
A/N: I forgot to add Hairo to people he met lol
