When Regulus came home from work, the apartment was plunged in darkness, save for a tiny sliver of light coming through the cracked door of their bedroom.
He opened up to find a frustrated Hermione sitting on their bed, tangled up in yarn.
"This isn't possible! I've learned this in primary school, I should remember how to knit!" she exclaimed, tugging on loose strands, only making a worse mess.
"Why don't you use magic?"
"It makes nicer sweaters, the Muggle way," Hermione replied looking down at her work so far. "I just want to make something special for Molly. She's given us so much."
Regulus sat down in the space beside her on the bed and gently pried the knitting out of her hands.
"Here, let me show you. Mum taught me the Muggle way before I could use magic."
In the warmth of the fireplace and Regulus by her side, she was content, even if things were not going the way they wanted. A few days ago, Harry turned female, Sirius kissed Remus under the Mistletoe, Hermione was content for once. Without having to worry about the next bit of the plan. They have an year to find an solution and the first step they had decided to take out the Basilisk in the Chamber of Secrets.
Slowly, Hermione closed her eyes and fell into a peaceful sleep. She faintly registered a kiss on her forehead and being lifted up.
It's been a few months since the war. The Battle of Hogwarts had broken everyone. People lost their loved ones. it had taken a toll on the people affected by it.
Regulus had been having nightmares almost every night.
"Regulus, Reg, wake up!" Hermione whisper-yelled to the man laying in bed beside her. He was asleep but covered in cold sweat and crying. "Regulus!"
"Hermione!" Regulus had finally woken up. He enveloped Hermione in a bone crushing embrace and started crying in her arms.
"Another nightmare?" Hermione asked.
She felt Regulus nod against her neck as he sobbed. "I'm sorry I woke you up," Regulus apologized.
"it's okay, Reg. what did you see? wanna talk about it?"
"you- you were d-dead", he stammered as he sobbed even harder.
Hermione understood his fear and consoled him, "it's okay, Regulus. I'm fine. shh, you're safe. I won't let you go."
Regulus cried for a few more minutes before calming down. He held Hermione and Hermione held him for a while before He spoke,
"let's go back to sleep, yeah?"
Hermione nodded and as they laid down, she asked him, "you won't cuddles, don't you?"
They both smiled at each other, already knowing the answer and wrapping each other in their arms once again.
Regulus mumbled something against her skin. "What was that, love?" Hermione asked, smiling. Regulus looked up into her eyes and repeated his words, "I love you, 'Mione."
"I love you, too, Reggie." she kissed him and they both fell asleep in each other's arms.
~~~~~~~
Dim light fluttered through the windows as the sunlight danced on Hermione's light skin. She looked peaceful, Regulus admired her.
Her eyes fluttered open, staring deeply into into black eyes. Regulus grinned and moved forard to kiss her, but she pushed him away. He gasped and pouted, Hermione never declined his amazing kisses.
"Good morning pimpy wimpy, you are the sunrise on my lips.. you are the butterfly flits that I wish to get, you are my special place of bliss.. so wake like it's to cake and take this kiss!!"
Mornings weren't Regulus's favorite thing by a mile, but waking up next to Hermione made everything a little better.
His touch on her face was as light as a feather, he didn't by any means want to wake her. Reggie loved when he would wake up before Hermione in a morning, and it'd been happening a lot more since Harry had been born due to your late nights. it gave him the chance to admire all the little details about her, all the things he loved.
A cry from below startled them, they smiled at each other, before throwing the covers away and racing downstairs to try and get harry to calm down.
Singing filling the nursery a few minutes later as Regulus sang an lullaby his father used to sing for him. Soft giggles filled the room, as Lily and James entered which caused Harry to burst into joyful giggles.
Hermione looked at her family, someone who cared for her and loved her. She looked at Regulus, who was rocking baby Harry in his arms, smiling at her. She smiled back, she was content, she was happy.
"I felt a wish never to leave that room - a wish that dawn might never come, that my present frame of mind might never change."
